Looking at Metal Manufacturing with an Artist’s Eye with Holly Gotfredson

When tough times hit, some companies and leaders fold and others find the silver lining. Maintaining focus on what matters most makes it possible to seize opportunities that others don’t even see and ensure that the company and their employees stay intact. Holly Gotfredson is the President and Owner of American Metal Craft, Inc. an architectural metal manufacturing firm started by her father-in-law in 1986, and Finishing Dynamics, LLC, a provider of coatings for metal products. In 2010, Holly made the decision to keep them as two companies but move them into the same building - putting engineering, fabrication, and finishing all under one roof. Although Holly never would have expected to be in the role she holds today, especially given her background in art history, she relishes the opportunity to be a creative and effective brand ambassador. In this episode, Holly speaks with co-hosts Allison Giddens and Scott Luton about:

  • How the pressure of the recession in 2008 led to them combining the companies in 2010 – and why this move created more value for their team and their clients
  • Her journey from periodic support through marketing to being the president and owner of both companies
  • The new innovations that she and her teams are experimenting with to keep pushing forward and building on their existing advantage

Mavens of Manufacturing Ep 62: American Metalcraft

In this episode of Mavens of Manufacturing, Meaghan Ziemba sits down with Holly Gotfordson, President of American Metalcraft, to discuss:

  • Her journey through manufacturing and how she was never really exposed to engineering or manufacturing career opportunities - shop classes were for boys and home ec classes were for girls.
  • The things she does to help advocate for women in STEM/STEAM career opportunities incuding AIA GA, She Built this City, and the summer internship with Allison Giddens.
  • Her biggest ask for the manufacturing community.
