In a new RoofersCoffeeShop® Lunch & Learn, Megan Ellsworth sat down with Jon Gardner to talk about the Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network. Jon has been with Owens Corning for over 14 years and is currently leading their learning and development program as well as their strategic partnerships program. Jon explained, “I’m committed to making sure that our network members, our contractors, have the best opportunities to succeed between what they do and what we can bring to them as part of our partnership with them.”
At its core, the Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network is designed to provide contractors with the resources they need to succeed, both as roofers and business owners. Jon explained, “Our commitment within the program is to wrap ourselves around contractors’ entire businesses, providing the resources that help to establish better framework for growth and unlock some potential and get rid of those nasty headaches that they might have currently in the business.”
Diving further into the details of the program, Owens Corning Roofing Contractor Network is segmented into three different tiers. The first is contractor rewards. This level is perfect for contractors that are just getting started. Jon explained, “With this particular level, you aren’t getting all our resources, but you are getting ones that are tailored to helping you establish yourself... So, you can earn rewards as a contractor rewards member, you can access many of our marketing materials and you have full access to our education.”
And for contractors who might be more established or just want more resources, getting involved with the Owens Corning preferred program is ideal! This is an invitation-only program that is coordinated by local sales reps. Jon elaborated, “Our 140+ area sales managers that are out in the market every day meeting with you are the ones you want to connect with if you have interest in becoming a preferred contractor.”
The main difference between the contractor rewards tier and the preferred program is the number of resources available. Where contractor rewards have all the things needed for starting out, the preferred program advances the offerings into ways to grow an existing business. Jon shared, “These are contractors that are best in class in the United States. They're running a very profitable business, and they're constantly looking for ways to improve. One of the big parts of the preferred program is that contractors in it can offer enhanced warranties that not only protect against manufacturing defect, but that also protects against workmanship.”
The other big benefit of becoming a preferred contractor is the access to the Owens Corning tech stack. Jon explained, “Our preferred contractors have access to our technology that we've developed with our partners to help them deploy better technology to solve some of those more critical issues that are inside their stack. A great example of one of those is our Owens Corning Live, which features 12 consultants across the United States in various disciplines within the business that help our contractors learn in live settings.”
As for the last and highest level within the Owens Corning Contractor Network, we have their platinum program. This is a level that represents the best of the best, with only 2% of contractors being invited into it.
So, what is included in this membership level? One benefit is the opportunity to attend Owens Corning’s Platinum Conference. Jon shared why this is significant, saying, “It's an annual event that is exclusive to our platinum contractors. They’re at it for three days and are truly immersed among the best of the best amongst themselves. It’s a great opportunity to kick off the year with training, networking and growth.”
The other big thing that is offered at this level is the platinum warranty. Jon explained, “Our platinum program offers the industry's most advanced warranty. And that is the platinum protection warranty that offers 25 years of workmanship coverage to contractors that's going to the homeowner on behalf of the platinum contractor. Offering that kind of warranty is a powerful tool for our platinum contractors that differentiates them and really shows homeowners they are investing in is something substantial.”
