Editor's note: The following is the transcript of a live interview with Trent Cotney of Adams and Reese LLP. You can read the interview below, listen to the podcast or watch the recording.
Alex Tolle: Hello, I'm Alex Tolle with RoofersCoffeeShop.com, and I am back here with Trent Cotney for another roofing influencer question. How are you, Trent?
Trent Cotney: I'm well, how are you doing?
Alex Tolle: Good. So our October question is: how can contractors remain competitive and differentiate themselves in markets experiencing significant mergers and acquisitions?
Trent Cotney: Yeah, so there obviously is a lot of PE out there. There are a lot of mergers and acquisitions going on with either consolidation or outside investment, and that changes the landscape a little bit. So, it depends on whether you're part of that process or you're not. Regardless, stick to the fundamentals, right? Good business practices lead to success.
If you're keeping your customers happy, if you're offering great service, if you are checking all the boxes, you're going to be successful. That's one of the great things about roofing as a whole is that if you just have a good head on your shoulders and some common sense, you can be very successful and make a lot of money because a lot of your competitors don't show up. So, I tend to focus on what you're doing and what's in front of you rather than the outside world.
Keep your head down, work on those KPIs, making sure you're showing up every day, be purposeful and consistent.
Alex Tolle: Absolutely, just stick to the basics and run a good business. I love it. Thank you so much Trent.
Trent Cotney: There you go.
