Estimators, This One is for You

Join Danny Boyle from Hargrove Roofing as he shares his contractor success story with estimation software. 

Danny Boyle is a project manager and estimator for Hargrove Roofing’s Houston office and has been in the roofing industry for much of his career. Recently, he was featured on the first episode of Contractor Success Stories, sponsored by Estimating Edge and made possible through RoofersCoffeeShop®.   

Danny comes with a wealth of experience using estimation software for project management needs and project takeoffs. In this special video, he shares his experience and advice for estimators looking to enhance their businesses with software.

“You have to invest time in the front end,” said Danny. “With The EDGE, that is really developing those systems, developing those conditions, that material library and investing that time into plugging those numbers in.” 

Danny explains that this practice allows you to do accurate takeoffs quickly and simply because you have a baseline already in place in your system. Within a specific bid, you can access your material library and make the necessary estimations, eliminating the need for time-consuming manual estimations.  

“Whether it’s a TPO roof, mechanically attached or adhesive attached, PVC or mod bit, investing your time into the software to develop those systems allows future estimations to go quickly and accurately,” said Danny. 

When choosing estimation technology, another area of consideration is the customer and technical service the software company provides. Danny mentioned he appreciated The EDGE’s technical support line and customer service email, especially when he and his team were struggling to add a one-off bid with one-off conditions to their material library.  

Along with customer and technical support, Danny and Hargrove Roofing feel their estimation software allows them to keep up with the market and stay competitive in a growing industry. 

“In this day and age, if you’re not doing takeoffs digitally, then you’re just going to waste so much time trying to do them manually. So, for us being able to keep up with the market, have that cross-platform communication and being able to collaborate with our team members in Louisiana [is] huge,” said Danny. “As the market continue to grow here in Huston and as we’re developing our office, we’re going to get more and more bids….so, it’s an indispensable tool.”
