Building a successful roofing business toolkit

Building a successful roofing business toolkit
February 22, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.

By Jessica Bravo.

Learn about the importance of skills, connections and knowledge.

In an episode of Roofing Road Trips®, host Heidi J. Ellsworth visited Steve Little, head coach of KPost Roofing and Waterproofing, in Dallas, Texas. Their conversation focused on the evolving nature of the roofing industry and how success isn’t just about having roofing skills anymore – it's about building a well-rounded business toolkit to navigate the challenges and ensure a successful roofing company.

Reflecting on KPost’s early years, Steve recalled how the company’s growth was initially driven by trust. “It took lots of friends, lots of strategic partners. A lot of people put their trust in us when we shouldn't have been trusted in our early years.” he said. This support helped the company establish a strong foundation and reputation in the industry.

As KPost Roofing grew, Steve realized that success in the roofing industry required more than just expertise in roofing. “We’ve been fortunate to have acquired connections with the consultants that we have hired in growing KPost in NRP,” he explained. These connections were essential as Steve and his team identified areas where they lacked knowledge and skills. He highlighted the importance of surrounding oneself with subject matter experts (SMEs) to tackle the complex issues that modern roofing businesses face.

To grow and thrive in an ever-evolving industry, it’s important to understand where a business can improve. He acknowledged, “It’s understanding your limitations. And I think that’s where egos really need to be left in the closet when you’re dealing with your business.” Building a strong network of experts and being aware of one's own skills and limitations are key to overcoming challenges and achieving long-term success.
