Why roofing contractors must embrace integration now

Why roofing contractors must embrace integration now
September 7, 2025 at 6:00 a.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

Reveal how smarter, better-integrated tech stacks transform day-to-day operations and drive long-term profitability across the roofing industry.

When roofing businesses talk technology, one word keeps coming up: integration. And according to Zach Carpenter of Jobba, that's no coincidence. "I would say if we were to identify a big trend that I see right now, it's people working to try and integrate," Zach said during this CoatingsTalk™ podcast. “Trying to make all your different products and all your different solutions connect together, is probably what people are most focused on right now.”

Zach, a 17-year veteran of roofing software and a co-founder of the legacy platform FCS Roofing Software, joined host Megan Ellsworth to break down how modern digital tools are transforming roofing operations. But rather than jumping straight to buzzwords like AI, Zach shared a more fundamental shift taking place in the industry: moving away from paper and toward connected digital ecosystems.

“AI is obviously becoming a big up and coming thing. But it’s really still about getting a bulk of contractors off manual paper-based models,” he said. That means adopting Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, bridging the gap between office and field teams and syncing data across platforms, whether through full integrations or more accessible options like Chrome extensions or cloud drives.

One of the biggest benefits of integration? Visibility. “Being able to forecast the KPIs and metrics are huge,” Zach said. And that visibility doesn’t just help internally. It also builds value into a company’s infrastructure, making it more scalable, repeatable and even more attractive in the current wave of roofing acquisitions.

Zach also cautioned that contractors must stay committed beyond the initial software purchase. “Make sure you're actually using the things you buy,” he noted, pointing to onboarding as a make-or-break factor. “They just end up spending money on solutions that they don't end up getting the most out of.”

But integration doesn’t have to mean a total tech overhaul. Contractors just starting out can benefit from simple tools like Google Drive or CompanyCam to create centralized workflows. For those ready to scale, platforms like FCS and Jobba offer deeper connectivity, including new API capabilities designed for seamless data sharing across tools.
