The secret to a healthier roof

The secret to a healthier roof
July 4, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

One overlooked detail could be trapping gallons of water vapor in your attic.

A roof’s ventilation might not be the flashiest or seemingly most important part of roofing but ignoring it could quietly cost homeowners more than they realize. The Roof Saver Ridge Vent eBook breaks down the purpose and process behind attic ventilation, with a sharp focus on its signature product. While most homeowners assume a sealed attic is a protected one, this guide reveals how everyday life tasks can introduce up to four gallons of water vapor a day into a home. That moisture, if not released, can lead to mold, wood rot and energy inefficiency.

It’s not just a best practice; it’s also part of the International Building Code, which mandates proper airflow in enclosed spaces like attics and rafter cavities. The Roof Saver Ridge Vent itself is a flexible material installed at the roof’s peak, working in tandem with soffit vents at the eaves. This intake-exhaust combination sets up a natural air circulation loop, an essential defense in any climate.

The guide walks readers through the calculation process to determine their specific ventilation needs, beginning with attic square footage and factoring in whether or not the home has a vapor retarder. For homes with one, the required Net Free Area (NFA), the open space through which air flows, is one square foot for every 300 square feet of attic space. Without one? The ratio doubles.

The eBook doesn’t just offer theory. It includes practical charts, examples and step-by-step instructions to calculate and execute a balanced system that prevents moisture buildup and extends roof longevity.

For roofing professionals and curious homeowners alike, the Roof Saver Ridge Vent eBook offers more than product information, it’s a tool for smarter, longer-lasting home design.
