Keeping your team up to date on new developments in the roofing industry through training is crucial to success in the field. But finding the right training program and coordinating schedules to get your crew in the right place at the right time can be challenging to facilitate. Luckily for contractors, Tremco Construction Products Group (CPG) is treating those pain points by taking their training program “On the Road.” To learn more about this program and how it is helping contractors around the country, Karen Edwards sat down with Joseph Studer, one of Tremco’s technical training managers, for an episode of Roofing Road Trips®.
Tremco’s “On the Road” program takes their training sessions directly to the contractors with two mobile trucks and trailers. Joseph explained, “If a contractor, distributor, architect or specifier (any type of end user of any of our Tremco CPG products), requests a training, their Tremco salesperson schedules a conference call with them. In that call, we go over what products they want to train on, what their audience is going to be, how many people in their audience and then we scheduled the truck and trailer to that location.”
Once on location, Joseph and his team will set up wall panels or concrete mockups to showcase hands-one use of products. From there, the training starts, focusing on the predetermined product(s) that was chosen in the conference call. Joseph walked us through what a day on the road looks like. He shared, “They usually run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so we schedule lunch in there that Tremco provides, and it's usually a fantastic time. Lots of hands-on opportunities for whoever's there to take the gun and spray something like ExoAir 230 or take the rake or spike roller and put down some Vulkem or PUMA.”
And not only are these “On the Road” trainings customized to the contractors’ schedules and their product interests – they come at no cost! Joseph shared, “The mobile training on the road, there is no cost to that. It's usually a very good sales opportunity or just an opportunity to showcase our products or demonstrate our products in front of potentially a new contractor or architect. So, there's no cost associated with lining up the truck and trailer on the road.”
