Rewiring roofing: Why integration is the missing link

Rewiring roofing: Why integration is the missing link
April 27, 2025 at 12:00 p.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

Modern roofing businesses are embracing tech — but without integration, it might be holding them back.

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, host Karen Edwards sat down with Alan Davis, director of product at Ingage, to unpack a topic that’s often misunderstood in the trades: software integration. With roofing companies increasingly adopting digital tools, the conversation explores what integration really means — and why it matters more than ever.

“Integration is the same kind of concept across the board,” said Alan. “Don’t be afraid about software integration. You know how this works already.”

That familiar comparison — the interconnectedness of an integrated roofing system — sets the tone for the discussion. Alan simplifies the technical jargon, comparing roofing materials like shingles and underlayment to digital components such as CRMs and quoting systems. The point? When your tools work together, everything runs smoother.

Ingage, a sales enablement platform designed for home services, centers its mission around creating a cohesive user experience for sales teams. But it’s not just about flashy presentations, it’s about answering the question, “How is that message effective?” Alan states. “Are we showing the right kinds of things? Do customers understand how we’re doing our jobs?”

The heart of the conversation is a warning to contractors: don’t adopt tech blindly. Before investing in any software, Alan noted, businesses need to clearly define their workflows and challenges. “It’s not about just investing in technology, it’s about investing in solutions to the problems you have,” he said.

A standout moment came when Alan challenged the way contractors often ask about features. “‘Do you integrate with XYZ?’ That’s an easy answer — yes. But you need to qualify that yes,” he noted. Instead, he urged contractors to ask deeper questions like, “What workflows does your integration support and what are the benefits?”

Alan lays out the practical implications for companies of all sizes. From solo contractors with paper-based systems to large enterprises seeking unified logins across dozens of platforms, the need for smart, customized integration is universal. And for those unsure of where to begin, Alan offers reassurance: “Lean heavily on your software vendors. Say, ‘Show me. Help me.’”
