In a field long reliant on high-impact materialss, the roofing and insulation sector is experiencing a quiet revolution. A newly patented propellant technology — ECO2 Driven™ — is turning heads not for what it adds, but for what it eliminates: hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs).
Developed by H.B. Fuller, the already successful adhesive reformulated with this advanced blowing agent technology, gives us Millennium PG-1 EF ECO2 low-rise foam adhesive. It represents a significant departure from traditional canister adhesive delivery methods. Instead of using conventional chemical propellants, this system relies exclusively on naturally occurring atmospheric gases. That means zero high global warming potential (GWP) propellants and a product that aligns with tightening environmental regulations, including the 2025 South Coast Air Quality Management District revisions.
“ECO2 Driven is a proactive approach to eco-consciousness,” according to H.B. Fuller. “It can save you money, time and effort by skipping intermediate changes that will eventually become obsolete.”
This low-rise, two-component polyurethane adhesive is engineered to reduce labor and waste without compromising performance. Housed in a pressurized dual-canister system, PG-1 EF ECO2 can be dispensed using ribbon or spatter patterns — no extra equipment required. Each set of canisters includes hoses, mixing tips, gloves and an applicator, minimizing setup and training time.
Approved by FM, UL, Miami-Dade, and boasting VOC levels under 50 g/L, the product is not just environmentally compliant but contractor friendly. Typical skin time takes five to eight minutes in standard conditions, and the canisters are portable and recyclable — advantages that add up on busy job sites.
What sets this innovation apart is its strategic positioning. By eliminating thermal bridging, not compromising deck integrity, and simplifying application, it offers operational gains alongside sustainability benefits. H.B. Fuller states, “You canreduce environmental impact, improve worker safety and job site efficiency all at the same time.”
As green building codes grow stricter and demand rises for low-emission solutions, ECO2 Driven technology puts H.B. Fuller at the forefront of a smarter, cleaner construction era.
