QXO’s move into the roofing products industry

QXO’s move into the roofing products industry
August 16, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

Matt Fassler from QXO joins Roofing Road Trips® to talk about why QXO chose roofing, what they plan to bring to the industry and how it could change the game for contractors and distributors alike.

Earlier this year, QXO made all the headlines in the roofing world by acquiring Beacon Building Products. To get to know QXO a bit better and how this acquisition plays into their larger plans, we sat down Matt Fassler, QXO’s chief strategy officer, for an episode of Roofing Road Trips®

Matt opened the conversation by talking about why QXO is making the jump into the roofing and building products industry, sharing, “We were very much attracted to the building product space, because it is a perfect fit for the transformation playbook that we've executed as a team in the past and are going to execute again here at QXO.” In the past, QXO has developed multi-billion-dollar companies in industries such as truckload distribution and equipment rentals by streamlining and leveling up their operations. Matt explained, “Brad Jacobs, our founder, developed XPO, who is now a leader in truckload distribution and also United Rentals, which quickly became the largest equipment rental company globally and remains so today. He also founded a company called United Waste, which was a consolidator in the waste management business back in the late-80s and early 1990s, and did exceptionally well for shareholders.”

How do Brad and his team do this? It’s all about finding companies with strong foundations that they can then add value to. Matt shared, “We like to seek industries that are under-penetrated by technology. We've learned to look to acquire companies that have strong foundations but might need that little bit of help integrating technology to keep up. So, as we looked at the roofing industry, we had some ideas on how to use cutting-edge ideas and cutting-edge technology to run distribution more efficiently and in turn, help our customers improve their businesses.”
