This October, roofing and building enclosure professionals will have a chance to sharpen their skills and deepen their knowledge at one of the year’s most anticipated technical events. On October 1, 2025, the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) Chapters of Region V will host their annual Technical Seminar at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, held in conjunction with the Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) 2025 Convention. RoofersCoffeeShop® will be attending to connect with industry leaders, learn from the sessions and share coverage of the event with our community.
Designed to deliver both technical expertise and networking opportunities, the seminar includes five educational sessions that provide 6.0 IIBEC and AIA learning units. For contractors, consultants, architects and engineers, it is a chance to access timely updates on industry practices and codes, while connecting with peers who are shaping the future of roofing. Registration costs $250 for IIBEC members and $300 for non-members and includes breakfast, lunch and admission to the Western Roofing Expo trade show floor on September 29 and 30.
The program lineup underscores why this seminar is so valuable. Matt Braun of GAF/Siplast will explore the complexities of overburden considerations in commercial roofing, while Erica Reynolds of Walker Consultants will take on the challenges of sloping design and the risks that come with getting it wrong. Robert Hemphill and Kimberly Agustin of Salas O’Brien Engineers will address the critical topic of designing low-slope roofing systems with climate change in mind, providing strategies to adapt buildings for future conditions. Attendees will also hear from Daniel J. Cupit of Professional Construction Services, who will review the latest roofing-related code updates that affect both steep- and low-slope projects. Rounding out the program, Darbi Krumpos of SOCOTEC Consulting will discuss what building enclosure consultants need to know about cross-laminated timber, a material seeing greater use in modern construction.
In addition to the sessions, the event features structured time for networking, from the morning breakfast and exhibit area to the happy hour closing the day. These opportunities to connect with peers and industry leaders are as important as the classroom-style learning, allowing participants to discuss ideas, ask questions and build relationships that can enhance their professional growth. For sponsors, the seminar also provides a platform to connect directly with attendees, with tabletop displays in the seminar room and opportunities for broader visibility.
As the roofing industry faces shifting codes, climate pressures and emerging materials, ongoing education is essential. The IIBEC Region V Technical Seminar provides a trusted forum where technical expertise meets real-world application. For professionals who want to stay competitive and deliver the best solutions to clients, this event is more than a date on the calendar. It is a must-attend opportunity to strengthen both knowledge and community.
