The outside air might have been cold in San Antonio, but inside the International Roofing Expo (IRE) 2025, Brava Roof Tile was on fire — and not just because of its sustainable, eye-catching products. Aaron Scholl, sales director for Brava, joined Karen Edwards on the Coffee Shop Sound Stage for a lively discussion about growth, grit and the company’s passion for legacy.
Brava, based out of Iowa, has grown rapidly in recent years, expanding from a five-person team to a field force of 12 and counting. “We’re in hyper-growth mode,” Aaron said. “It’s exciting to watch the team get bigger, the tent get wider.”
Founded two decades ago, Brava has carved out a niche in the industry with its synthetic roofing tiles that mimic classic materials like cedar shake, slate and Spanish barrel tile, but with longer lifespans and modern eco-conscious appeal. Each tile is produced using post-industrial recycled plastic through a mineral pigmentation process unique to Brava.
“Our number one goal is to have an aesthetically pleasing product that emulates natural materials,” Aaron said. “It’s nice to walk into a room of architects and designers and know that you have a very aesthetically pleasing product and an item that’s really durable.”
The company’s reach has extended well beyond its Midwest roots, with demand rising in places as diverse as Hawaii, Canada and the Caribbean. Aaron attributes that demand, in part, to the flexibility of their products, which cater to architectural tastes from mission-style homes in Washington state to classic Spanish-style builds in Arizona and Florida.
Brava’s success, however, is due to more than just outstanding products. “It’s the people,” Aaron shared, recounting how homeowners often become brand loyalists. “They’re telling their neighbors, their friends at the club, at the coffee shop.”
At IRE, Brava leaned into its brand identity with bold visuals — bolo ties, branded hats, even a Texas-style belt buckle — and a packed rooftop hospitality event that almost didn’t happen. “We threw it together in 10 days,” Aaron said, crediting colleague Amanda Gay with making the impossible happen. “Talk about planning a wedding last minute.”
What started as a scrappy operation rolling into trade shows in a shabby Winnebago has become a brand presence that commands attention on rooftops and trade floors alike. But Brava’s heart still beats for storytelling and relationships, not just roofing specs.
