How to Prepare Your Company for the Growing Digital World

Cotney Consulting Growing Digital World
January 17, 2022 at 6:00 a.m.

By Cass Jacoby, RCS Reporter.

Learn how to make use of digital resources in this one-of-a-kind RLW.

In a RoofersCoffeeShop® Read Listen Watch™ (RLW) now available on-demand, John Kenney, CEO of Cotney Consulting talks with Heidi J. Ellsworth, RCS president, about how roofing contractors can shift how they buy services from the old way of sitting in an office to the new way of buying and meeting online.

John talks about the traditional ways that people have gained training for legal or getting resources for HR or estimating. "I think construction industry and the roofing segment, in general, has always been behind in training,” says John. He discusses how in-person training is less accessible, since it usually means shutting down the company for a few days and traveling. He adds that “we are focusing our efforts onto expansion out into those areas of training online.” With the rise of online purchasing and learning, it is important to utilize these resources.

John gives advice on how to begin to use online training in your offices. “The first thing you should do before you do anything in your business period, but especially when it comes to doing technology training, any of this, sit down, talk to your key people,” says John. “Put a plan together, just map it out. And remember that you have got to make time. You’ve got to understand, you have to make time for training no matter what it is.”

“So that's the first part. Right? And then create learning spaces,” adds John. He discusses that there is a great benefit of employees doing training at home, but to also be mindful that not everyone may have a computer at home and to provide spaces where your employees have the best tools to learn.

John also discusses how ShopCotney.com is designed to work with contractors expanding into the digital world. Cotney recently launched ShopCotney.com offering digital resources that make it easy to get answers quick. Whether it is legal questions, estimating, HR or across-the-board training, Cotney has once again envisioned a new way of purchasing and consuming legal and consulting resources.

“It's a great site for resources,” says John. “We're trying to give that full experience of what you need because at Cotney, being attorneys and consultants, we have full range of full service.”
