With summer in full swing and temperatures rising, keeping cool on the jobsite and keeping customers cool in the summer weather is crucial. And there’s a product that could be a game changer for roofing contractors working in hot climates and for the homeowners relying on functional air conditioning during tear-offs, which Heath Hicks, co-founder of The Catch-All and owner of AVCO Roofing, shares about in this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, “At basically every job site that you go to, you’ll see the crew in some way trying to protect the AC unit,” Heath said. “Whether there’s a sheet of plywood on the top or a piece of foam or a tarp. But many of them are not good for the unit.” The issue isn’t just physical protection, it’s airflow. Conventional covers often force homeowners to shut off their AC, sometimes in sweltering summer heat.
“In Texas, you can’t get away with that in the summer,” Heath explained. “You cannot stop it. It has to be running all day.” That need inspired the AC Shield, a breathable net and pole system that covers the AC unit without blocking air circulation. Made from components of the original Catch-All debris containment system, the product is designed to fit 95% to 98% of residential units. Its goal is simple: protect the equipment without disabling it.
“It packs down into a small bag. You just can reuse it over and over again,” Heath said. “And saves you a lot of money in the long run. You only have to hurt one air conditioner a year to cost yourself a lot of money.” The AC Shield, now in pre-order, has already drawn significant interest. According to Heath, contractors are snapping it up as a “no-brainer” solution, an affordable tool that prevents costly damage and builds customer trust in the process.
The AC Shield is built with purpose. It addresses a frustrating, often overlooked problem in residential roofing and it does so in a way that adds value on day one.
