Fluid-applied coatings: The future of roofing solutions

Fluid-applied coatings: The future of roofing solutions
September 27, 2025 at 12:00 p.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

With Stormbreaker™, BITEC shows how fluid-applied coatings give contractors a competitive edge by delivering reliable performance and responsive support that set them apart in a crowded market.

Fluid-applied coatings continue to be a strategic offering, and according to Jon Feick, senior territory sales representative at BITEC®, they may just be the future. Jon said in this episode of the Roofing Road Trips® podcast, “The fluid-applied market is becoming more prominent in the industry. And it is becoming a solution that building owners can turn to and have a cost-effective solution that meets their specific needs on a property”. And Stormbreaker™, BITEC’s line of fluid-applied roof coatings, has been gaining significant traction because of its product features as well as the support BITEC offers contractors.

Jon’s background is an unlikely path into the roofing world. After 20 years in financial services, he sold his investment practice in 2017, only to find himself bored. A friend with a roofing company in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas offered him a position, whichlaid the groundwork for John’s transition into roofing product manufacturing.

Now, Jon is on the front lines of helping contractors understand when, how and why to use fluid-applied coatings and why Stormbreaker is built to stand out. “There are a lot of high-quality coatings out there,” he acknowledged. “What we need to do from a Stormbreaker standpoint is differentiate ourselves.”

For Jon, that differentiation in an already competitive market lies in service and process, not just product.  “I'm going to be there when my contractor needs me. I'm going to be extremely responsive,” Jon shares. “It's getting up on the roof with your contractor. It's helping them do the adhesion tests, making sure that the right coating system is applied to the right application. And then it's also addressing what potential pain points they may have in going through a process.” In addition to responsive support, Jon emphasized addressing other pain points like streamlining warranties. According to Jon,  “Streamlining that warranty process for our contractors and making it as easy as possible for them to go through our warranty process and actually issue that warranty so they can get paid on that final check, that really helps us. And I like to call that the Stormbreaker advantage. We've done some things with BITEC that differentiate us in the warranty process and that really sets us apart.”
