When Ashley Aldridge joined Roofing Corp of America (RCA), she didn’t know a thing about roofing. But what she did know was people. Today, as HR director for one of the fastest-growing commercial roofing platforms in the country, Ashley is helping shape the future of the industry by attracting, developing and retaining the talent that fuels RCA’s coast-to-coast success. Alongside CEO Randy Korach, whose roots in building materials run deep, the two leaders shared their stories in a recent episode of People Make Roofing.
Over the past four and a half years, Roofing Corp of America has grown into a near-billion-dollar platform by acquiring leading local contractors and helping them scale. The company now operates 20 branches under 13 distinct brands across 16 states. At the heart of it all is a focus on people: “You have people that started out just as a roofer, just needed a job, and now they’re running a big part of the operation,” Ashley shared. “What a great success story that is.”
That people-first approach starts at the top. Before founding RCA, Randy spent decades in leadership roles at major building materials companies. He saw firsthand how empowering teams and fostering talent could drive long-term success. When he launched Roofing Corp of America, he brought that same mindset to the roofing industry – committed to building not just a business, but a community of professionals who take pride in their work and want to grow within it.
Before joining RCA, Ashley spent years in HR at a large public company. But she missed the entrepreneurial energy of smaller teams and when she found Roofing Corp of America, she saw the perfect opportunity. “It was about attracting the most successful contractors, and we've continued to do that,” she explained. “And what was also really exciting was just to learn something new. I had never thought about roofing before, and I'm still learning every day, which has been challenging, but it's really been a ton of fun.”
Randy saw Ashley’s fresh perspective as an asset, saying, “Her lack of experience, when she joined us at roofing, we viewed it as a plus, to be candid. There was a real opportunity to gain perspective from other branch-based facility service type organizations. She's brought an enormous amount of energy, and we've really benefited from that, and our people get all the benefit associated with it.”
As anyone in construction knows, finding good people is only half the battle. Ashley’s approach to keeping good talent is simple: start with the team you already have.
“Make it the best place they can possibly be,” she explained. “If they love what they’re doing, feel respected and have what they need to do their job well, they’ll become your biggest ambassadors.”
“The entire success that we project forward is fully dependent on the quality of the workforce that chooses to come to work for us every day,” Randy added. He and Ashley are committed to creating an environment where people want to work, where they feel supported, challenged and proud of what they do.
