Building a stronger team with technology

Building a stronger team with technology

With growing labor concerns and shortages, it is important now more than ever to equip your team with the best tools for the job.

Labor shortages have been a longtime point of concern for the roofing industry, and it’s not looking like that will change in 2025. While many of the issues that led to this point cannot be resolved by individual businesses overnight, there are steps that can be taken to help your own company grow and thrive in the meantime.

One such way to encourage growth in this challenging labor environment is to invest in and leverage tools and technology that make your existing team more efficient. To explore this idea, we spoke to Allan York, the senior vice president of construction and solar businesses at Eagleview about their Eagleview Assess program.

Eagleview Assess equips contractors with autonomous drones that provide accurate and high-quality images of roofs, streamlining their inspection processes. These drones are simple to use and all you need to get started is a Part 107 license (commercial drone license). Allan explained, “There are 600 locations around the United States where you can take a Part 107 Test. I suggest the first thing you do is take a practice test right out of the gate, because a lot of the questions you will probably know the answers too. And it will tell you which portions of the test that you actually need to study for. Once you get a passing score on that test, you will get your Part 107 license.”

From there, you can start employing Eagleview Assess drones in the field to make your operations more efficient. Instead of having to send a team member to manually climb onto a potentially dangerous roof to do an inspection, you can keep your boots on the ground and send the drone to create a high-quality digital rendering of the roof that showcases any potential damages or problem areas. And the key to this is that it's not hard for your existing crew to get a license and learn how to do this. Allan explained, “Once you pass the test, the product flies itself, capturing images and data by itself, ultimately delivering the imagery to us at Eagleview where we prepare that imagery in a way that's easy to work with. Overall, this is just a way to become more efficient without setting yourself back in terms of time, training and things like that.”
