Say any experts on this subject? I am talking about signing up jobs contingent on insurance proceeds and signing homeowner up on the first meeting.>>>

Ditto, give it a break. That's what a forum is all about. No one is "picking" on anyone here, just a back and forth discussion based on the facts presented, that's all. If someone wants to be the "big shot" they better be ready to defend their position, with the facts, not the "run around". When a guy won't come clean about his background I have to assume he's hiding something, that's all. That, and the fact that the industry he now represents and speaks so eloquently about is known to be one of the biggest frauds in the business world today.........can you say AIG? All theses companies are the same. The mob really screwed the pooch when they got out of the "protection business". Insurance sounds so much better ;) ;) but it's really all the same thing.

One of the easiest ways to get a hold of other companies contingency contracts, is to call the storm chaser companies out to your home and provide you with their copy, after they assess your roof and get you to agree to follow through with them.
Call them all up and see how they handle the entire process from multiple perspectives.
Make sure you keep a copy and tell them that you will review it and get back to them the next day.
Or, sign the darned thing, just to get them to leave you a copy and immediately call and say you felt pressured and you changed your mind and follow that up with a cancellation notice sent to their office, via certified mail, return receipt requested.
If they try to make you sign it to leave you a copy, without wanting to leave a copy, or without providing you with the Consumers 3 Day Right Of Rescission Notice, which legally provides a home owner 3 business days to change their mind about a home renovation contract over the sum of $500.00, then you could threaten to turn them into the Attorney Generals Office, just to get them to stop bothering you and then follow through with that threat, if they were not being legal with you and their contract.

That's the thing. We do so many different things.
Today I was replacing some trim on a converted old mansion. Had to have it matched to existing. I didn't really want to get involved, but the owner wanted to pay my "go away" price. While I was doing the work, he had a brainstorm and thought maybe I could fix a roof leak? "Yeah, if I remember how".
Some of the things I thought about for myself and the job I do: Social Worker, cajoler, parole officer, financial analyst, compliance officer, human resourcer, Workers Comp stooge, drill Sargent, Nanny, hostage negotiator, web developer, King of a small and unusual Kingdom, maintenance man, doer of things no one else wants to do, sales pimp, marketing ho, tool guy, head complainer.>>>
Thanks ed, Hey I started to think about all the other things I do . I'm also a Barista and roast my own coffee which is called CIAK ROAST and bag it for my friends . I'm a slumlord well not really I love that name though Landlord . I play hockey now and again . I'm a great husband to the LOVELY MRS CIAK a great father to 5 of my own kids and 8 to 10 surrogate daughters and sons. I'm a great friend and love the town I live in, What does that make me ? I mean my title ??? No I'm not looking for dates so forget about it McRosey . This can still be a good thread if we can back on track.>>>
Y'all forgot Practicing Roofer :)
Yep I probably qualify for a few of the other headings too.
Must be a mid life crisis thing analysing ourselves lol>>>
Now I have to re-read what I re wrote about what you re-wrote about what I said about what i wrote about the rewrite?
Now I feel rejected too........ :woohoo:
yes, but this situation has been upon us since the announcement by Ciak himself, that he was leaving the ranks of us roofers and questioned whether or not he would be welcome when he crossed over to the other side. I remember a bus or something, and a lot of ribbing that he took from that. I just jumped on the pig pile.
One of these day, someone is going to lose an eye with all of the stick poking.
Did Builder just propose to me? I feel so dirty now.
Plus, humor does change when you are the owner and realize the consequences of your comments and actions.
A long time ago, I used to joke about if a guy ever fell off the roof, I would give a large bonus to the guy who got their pitch fork closest to the heart.
A death is a lot less expensive that a lifetime work ending injury.
Eventually, I wised up about how crude that comment was, which was always intended to be a joke, could really mean to someone who may have been seriously injured previously.

Perhaps your title should be "ubiquitous poster" Ed. Are you ever not on the 'net?>>>
Have you been off the roof so long Ed that you have forgotten what humor is?>>>
I do ED....even if you are taking the fun out of pointing our fingers at "he who dances with Roofers" :woohoo:>>>
Well Hell Then. I guess I am a masquerading roofer too.
I manage my roofing contracting business more often than I do anything on a roof now a days.
At one time, I put in my 80-110 hour work weeks, mostly on the roofs, but that has changed over the years.
Why the heck do you guys get so flamed out about someones title?
I am not defending anyone here, but the guy in question, obviously has knowledge about roofing and a great many other things.
Let it go please. It is becoming a very tired old song and dance that I see here on a daily basis.
There are many other well respected parties who post, but they no longer work on roofs anymore either and some are completely out of the game, but you don't continue to pile on them, do you?
If you want, start just one thread topic about how and why you despise someone, but keep all of the playground BS in that isolated garbage can, if you don't mind. Maybe the person can start it himself and send personal invitations to the most poignant flamers.
These topical intrusions, just to besmirch someone else takes the wind out of the sail for a higher quality possible conversation that we can all be having about any particular topic at hand.
After all is said and done now, do you guys still love me?
Ed

It's hard to come up with one line that defines someone. As you can see I couldn't do it for myself. Just for fun, this is what popped up for our famed, thick skinned adjuster.
Aberrant Roofer Former Roofer Delusional Roofer Unsanctioned Roofer Masqueraded Roofer Half the time we don't know what he's talking about Roofer >>>
You know that was a good question. I really have never asked what a roofing contractor was. Even though I have been a State Certified Roofing for 25+ years and have owned my own Mid size roofing company . Naturally, a roofer must not be scared of heights and have good balance as well as carpentry skills. Wikipedia. I also have a State Certified All lines adjuster license which makes me an insurance adjuster. So I'm in both worlds . At the moment I'm doing repairs fixing the fark up's what some might have consider professional local roofing contractors . I say this tounge and cheek. They do crappy work. You know who you are . I have a totally different view of the roofing trade from both sides. Because I don't have the energy to do this business anymore. I found a place where I love what I do again ( I used to love the roofing business then Andrew hit ) What I do with my All lines adjuster lic is fun and interesting I meet interesting people and go to very interesting places . I do good stuff and help people + I get paid very handsomely for it. Cool Jed your using the spell checker too.>>>
I think we need to take a poll to determine what Ciak's new heading title should be.
new thread necessary? or just add it here....anyone? I vote "forensic roofer">>>
CIAK Said: Kick backs That accusation is totally uninformed and ignorant Jet. Most of the time when ther is accusation with no or little foundation it speaks volumes of the person making them. I hear ya!! ;)
Why did I know YOU would respond to my reply?........thought you were a "roofer", at least that's what it still says in your heading. Have Steve change that, would 'ya?
