Tremco AlphaGuard™ BIO is a Smart Sustainable Choice for Roofs and Now Offers More Colors

AUG - ProdSvc - Tremco - AlphaGuard Bio is a Smart Sustainable Choice for Roofs and Now Offers More Colors1

The liquid-applied system is available in a set of six different colors.

Liquid-applied systems are fast becoming a popular option for many building owners. Not only does it save the cost of a roof tear off, it keeps those old roofing materials out of landfills. Restoring the roof with a coating can also result in a reflective rooftop with the potential of saving energy and reducing the urban heat island effect.

Tremco Roofing launched its AlphaGuard® BIO liquid applied system in 2015 to offer contractors and building owners an environmentally friendly roof restoration option. According to Tremco Roofing Product Manager Josh Poole, the most unique aspect to the AlphaGuard BIO system is that it is virtually odorless, which you don’t generally see in a urethane-based product.

In his role at Tremco, Poole handles everything related to the products that he manages. From concept to development and testing, to field support, product training and code approvals, he knows his products inside and out. He has been involved in the management of the AlphaGuard BIO system from day one.

The odorless and low VOC features of the system make it ideally suited for situations that demand high-performance roofs but where odor is not allowed, such as school and hospital projects. It solves numerous roofing needs, including restoring structural concrete, BUR, MB and single ply roofs; installations on vegetated and IRMA roofs; new construction; and even a liquid flashing membrane for new roofs.

“Since launching the product, we’ve worked over the last few years to develop a set of color options,” explained Poole. “These include three shades of gray – light, medium and dark, two shade of tan – beige and sand, and finally safety yellow.”

Poole said that the safety yellow works great for marking perimeter lines on the roof and can be used to designate any area that requires caution. “Many contractors are using the different colors to designate specific non-skid walkways areas. It can be pretty slick on the roof and by mixing silica sand or roofing granules into an additional coat of the colored product, it becomes very apparent where it is safe for anyone on the roof to walk.”
