A survey in 2018 found that “access to natural light and views of the outdoors” was one of the highest-ranking desires of employees in a workplace. Beyond natural light improving the aesthetic environment of a space, it also provides benefits such as increased productivity, improved health and energy savings. But bringing light into a space can often feel like a daunting task. That’s where VELUX modular skylights come in!
Architecturally designed as a structural skylight alternative, this prefabricated modular glass skylight system requires no on-site glazing or scaffolding, so installation is 3X faster for increased labor savings. Keep reading to learn about five reasons installers are choosing VELUX Modular Skylights.
Because these skylights are prefabricated, they offer a great turnkey solution without compromising quality. They are tested throughout the production process, resulting in high-quality, long-term performance. Each module has dedicated claddings, flashings and a vapor barrier connection strip to create a seamless, watertight system.
VELUX modular skylight sashes and frames are made from a pultruded composite of 80% fiberglass and 20% polyurethane. The composite material provides high insulation performance and thermal stability while maintaining excellent flexural strength. Subsequently, this strength allows installations to run smoother, even when working with considerable size and weight. Further, the composite is maintenance-free, non-corrosive and electrically non-conductive.
These skylights utilize a unique bracket system that allows them to be quickly and easily installed in all weather conditions for an extended installation season. VELUX has spoken to installers in the field, who report that “the mounting of our modular skylights is two to three times faster than traditional on-site assembly of glass roofs.” And that quick installation time includes the flashing and cladding!
VELUX modular skylights can be combined in multiple roofline configurations depending on the load and site requirements you are dealing with. They feature a minimalistic design, allowing more daylight into the space below. Single- or dual-pitched options, flat or 5-90 degrees, there’s a configuration for narrow corridors, meeting spaces, atriums and more.
From glass quality to passive ventilation and integral shade options, these skylight modules are designed to work as a single system from the moment they’re made. This allows airflow and light control for an energy-efficient, healthier space. The cherry on top? You can combine a fixed module with a venting one. A built-in, hidden actuator ensures no visual differences between these two types of skylights when closed!
