By Rocky Mountain Snow Guards.

Experienced roofer, Mark Hubbard, answers questions about snow retention systems for his roofing projects.

Mark Hubbard, president of Turner Morris Commercial Roofing, based in Arvada, Colorado, leads his company in expert repair, replacement and maintenance of commercial roofing. The company also has offices in the Rocky Mountains in Summit and Eagle Counties that focus exclusively on high alpine roofing solutions. Turner Morris Commercial Roofing puts training and safety above all else to provide top-quality service to their multitude of customers throughout Colorado.

Q: Tell us about the geography you install roofing in and what kind of snow retention systems are needed for your customers.

A: At Turner Morris Commercial Roofing, we operate across Colorado, a region with a challenging climate that varies from the plains of eastern Colorado to high-altitude mountains. For our sloped roofing projects, especially in areas with significant snowfall west of Denver, efficient snow retention systems are crucial. The combination of steep roof pitches and heavy snow in mountainous regions demands reliable snow guards to prevent snow from sliding off roofs abruptly, which can be hazardous.

Q: What type of roofing material do you tend to install most, and what's your favorite "go to" snow retention product that you use repeatedly with that material?

A: In addition to commercial projects, we specialize in installing standing seam metal roofs, Faux Slate/Shake, tile, and asphalt shingles. Our go-to system for standing seam roofs is the wide range of S-5! products. We install thousands of RG-7s and RG-16s each year on faux slate/shake and asphalt shingle roof systems. These systems effectively mitigate risk to pedestrians below while maintaining the integrity of the roof system when properly installed.

Q: What's the most challenging/interesting/successful roofing project you've ever done where a snow retention system was involved? Can you send us pictures?

A: One of our most notable projects that required snow retention was a project at the base of the ski area in Beaver Creek. The building is roughly 70' tall, with pedestrian traffic around the entire area. Rocky Mountain Snow Guards provided a detailed design for appropriate protection for the new DaVinci Slate and copper shingle roof system. Their design included incorporating their products with the existing snow retention system that needed to be revised due to the changes to the roof from concrete tile to faux slate. The project required precise planning and execution to ensure the roof could withstand heavy snow loads while maintaining aesthetic appeal.

Q: How often do you use the free architectural snow retention plan from Rocky Mountain Snow Guards when you're working on a roofing project? Why are you using this service?

A: Rocky Mountain Snow Guards' free architectural snow retention plan is a valuable resource for our sloped roofing projects. We use it regularly to ensure that our installations meet safety standards. Their tailored solutions are particularly helpful in addressing the unique challenges posed by different roofing materials and slopes.

Q: What keeps your company coming back to Rocky Mountain Snow Guards for your snow retention needs?

A: Turner Morris's ongoing collaboration with Rocky Mountain Snow Guards is driven by their expertise in providing high-quality, reliable snow retention solutions suited to the varied roofing systems we install. Their understanding of the nuances of each roofing material and the specific challenges of Colorado's climate makes them an invaluable partner in our roofing projects.
