In the central region of Utah, just outside of Provo, there is a city called Spanish Fork. Historically, Spanish Fork has been noted for being named in the 1865 Treaty of Spanish Fork and as one of the first permanent Icelandic settlements in the United States. Today, the city is estimated to have a population of around 42,000.
With Spanish Fork’s unique location between Utah Lake in the northwest and Wasatch Mountains in the southeast, the area experiences some unique weather conditions. The base level of elevation in town is around 4,500 feet and can rise up to 5,200 feet. In the summer, Spanish Fork gets a characteristically dry Utah season, while autumn brings back precipitation. Winters are usually cold and snowy, where springs bring the threat of flash flooding.
With all this in mind, it's no wonder that when the local library needed a new roof they chose a comprehensive TPO system that incorporates Johns Manville Energy 3® Tapered ISO. TPO roofing systems are known for being reliable and cost-effective options. More importantly, especially for this project, Johns Manville reinforces their TPO membranes with a polyester fabric and manufacture using an ultraviolet-resistant thermoplastic polyolefin formulation. This results in a TPO roof system that is versatile, durable and will stand up to whatever Spanish Fork’s seasons can throw at it.
In addition to having the performance that Spanish Fork Library needs to survive the seasons, TPO was also the perfect option for installation timelines. One of the key concerns going into this project was that the library needed to stay operational for their community during the project. Because they were working with TPO, the installation team from Collins Roofing was able to cover the 27,000 square foot library roof with minimal disruptions to the Spanish Fork Library’s community.
