Preparing your crew and your equipment

Preparing your crew and your equipment
January 19, 2026 at 9:00 p.m.

RCS Influencer Will Lorenz says the off-season is all about preparing for the next busy season.

Editor's note: The following is a transcript of a conversation with Will Lorenz of General Coatings Manufacturing Corp. You can Read the transcript below, Listen to the interview or Watch the recording

Jenny Yu: Hi everyone. I'm Jenny Yu with RooferCoffeeShop and I'm here with Will Lorenz of General Coatings. How are you
today, Will?

Will Lorenz: I'm fantastic. Looking forward to a great 2026.

Jenny Yu: Excellent. So are we. So to kick off 2026, our first question for the month of January is, how can roofing contractors use the off season to tighten operations and improve job site efficiency?

Will Lorenz: That's a great question, Jenny. I think when the off season comes, it's best to look at two things. One, your staff. Try and see what you can do to get them trained on new products or procedures that you want to follow to try and do things more efficiently. With most jobs it comes down to the skills and the technical capabilities of your staff as well as your equipment.

And then that's the second phase there, equipment. Many times you finish the season running things hard and perhaps even have dirty equipment. The off-season is a good time to look at it, see what you can replace, see what you can clean up, get ready and get prepared for the season.

I think those are really critical because you know when the job starts you want to be ready to go. You want your team ready to get out there and do do the job and you want the equipment to to perform at a high level right behind them.

The last thing I would say is, as you get going, you should be reviewing procedures with people and reviewing the job site requirements so that people are well aware of what you expect and how they can then give you feedback if there's things that are gone ary or things that you need to fix and so they're well aware to work with your your supervisor staff out there in the field.

Jenny Yu: Excellent. Thank you so much.
