Has anyone ever tried using women as a residential salesperson ? I notice that there are alot selling real estate and that alot of the people that are calling for estimates are women.

What are your thoughts ???>>>

Gee, Tom! For a male, you're pretty insightful! :P  >>>

I am a main salesperson for my company. I noticed that I am able to sell because people trust that I would not cheat them. Some people will decide for me because they hope that their experience would be better with me than with their previous male contractors. I also put pretty much attention to aesthetic details. However, I still meet, very often, customers (men and women) who do not want to see a woman in construction business. Whenever I have an impression that I might be dealing with such a person I send a man for the sales presentation.>>>

If the customer is a woman then I agree with a woman being able to do the sale. Women relate to each other much better than to a man. If the woman knows her stuff I say go for it.

I think that is a good idea. On a side note Jeanette and I went shopping for flooring last night. Every bit as knowledgeable as me and definitely the one to pick the style and colors she did all the talking, She would ask a question and the young man would answer it to me. I dont think he even new he was doing that and the wife did not seem to notice but I did. Some men dont take a woman seriously in this stituation. This is not relevant to the question to which I think the answer is yes because I know if Jeanette had more roofing knowledge she would be a very good salesman>>>

We're looking for suitable female candidates to train. So far, the ad that was designed to appeal to women has gotten us only male responses. Sigh. Expertise in sales or trades doesn't really have a gender, but we'd really like to see what women sales reps can do for us, as none of our competitors use women sales reps, and it would be yet another factor that differentiates us. However, at the end of the day, it's not the gender but the degree of empathy and rapport that our customer rep can have with a customer that will determine our success.

We just finished an intense training session with six candidates being trained and tested to be trainers. One of the candidates was a woman, and she was every bit as good (in production, technical skill, execution of detail, problem-solving ability) as the guys. So as Tinner says, it's not the gender, it's the person.>>>

A knowledgeable person is just that. Not female or male in my eyes.>>>

I think women can sell as well as men and probably even better. If a woman is thoroughly familiar with all aspects of roofing materials, techniques, accessories and installation, there should be no problem.

I find when I am dealing with a man, I have to work a bit harder to "prove" myself. It is almost as if they don't trust what I am saying or showing them. On the other hand, the women find it fascinating that I can explain to them why the roof should be vented and how it should be done for the type of roof, or the difference in the styles of shingles and their warranties. Most people thinks a woman has better judgement when it comes to color or style selection (although it is not entirely true) and are more comfortable talking about the aesthetics.

I would not put a woman salesperson out just because she was a woman but if she really knows her stuff, you will be pleasantly surprised.>>>
