Will the recovery happen any time soon? Probably not. Things are definitely starting to change. It is going to take a long while before the economy absorbs the vast number of unemployed. Despite the fact that we have not really seen the economy making much progress, now is the time to start thinking about and preparing for recovery. You don't want to miss a great opportunity. Commercial real estate is cheap now. Who's planning? Now is a good time to consider new inventory policy. When the recovery happens raw materials will be in big demand. If you have planned properly you will be in a very good position. With so many fantastic prices out there, you may find that now is a good time to stock up on large quantities of inventory. I have managed to just about move entirely out of shingle projects. Customers will have to track me down and hold a gun to my head to get me to take on shingle work from now on.

Slowly building small stocks of salvaged slate and tile. If prices hold, after the new year begins I will lay in some extra copper as well. Looking for a better facility to rent or buy so I can stock more slate and tile. Marketing plans taking a Big move forward after the new year as well stephen

The idea is to be in front of the wave as it swells. If you just wait and then ride it you have lost a lot of potential momentum. It is important to consider infrastructure (people assets and money) you will need when the turn starts. It is important to have infrastructure in place before your business starts to grow. If it isn't there then customer service will suffer/ That is why waiting is not a good philosophy. The recovery will come. Are you planning??? "The recovery" isn't going to be a mass "event". Nothing is on the horizon that would suddenly create the need for millions of well paying jobs, which is the only thing that will lead to a recovery.

The only types I see growing (besides healthcare) are make-work government jobs and projects, which will further feed the deficit and therefore cause future tax increases.

Assuming that everyone has already taken a hard look at overhead, it is just time to continue providing great service and making the customers you have feel special. If/when business picks up you'll naturally ride the wave.
