I'm trying to find someone who has had experience with thermo-shield roof coating. The company claims and documentation seem too good. A great thermal barrier, ideal for flat roof overlays, 20 year warranty, Energy Star rating, can be used over just about any type of roof. I'd appreciate any info from people who actually have used it. (Not related to the owner of the company) >>>
I have the same experience as JET. The solvent based coating are the best . Clay based emulsions and water acrylic type wear off and expose the membrane to UV and eventual deterioration especially in a 48 hr + time frame with ponding water. I stopped using the emulsions the first time they became a problem . No fighting the manufacture for warranty . I took care of it myself never used them again . It is just not a good product in Florida sun and weather . One of the things to look for as far as quality is the aluminum base fibers count or weight . If you are using Aluminum. I've been using this stuff for over 20 yrs have a lot of experience with it personally. Mixing is critical as is application mills. Hey JET I got my spell checker going pretty cool huh ?       ;) ;)>>>
I have a guy near me who does all my spray coatings. He's been in the business over 25 years and I trust his expertise as far as products and where they can be safely used. You'll find the roof coating industry to be one of the worst there is. They come and go all the time and leave the contractor hanging when it comes to warranty problems. We only use solvent based coatings, no water base. While solvent based products are much harder to work with and clean up they'll handle ponding and other flat roof issues much better. We were using TruCoat until they punked out on some warranty stuff. We now use a Florida based company and have had zero problems.......so far. The coating business is one of the last niche businesses open to us. I strongly suggest that anyone interested in adding a big ticket item to their product line investigate the coating business.
