Anyone had good luck with a chute system for steep slope roofs that they would care to share ?? Thanks.
This tear off had hurricane diamond shaped shingles nailed over top of slate. I can't believe someone would do that. We covered the driveway with some sheets of O.S.B and threw a tarp over them. Then we obviously covered the sides with tarps. Depending on the strenth of the gutter, we like to zip tie the tarps right to gutter spikes every other spike. Workds quick that way. The old slate under the shingles was extrememly dusty, so the tarps really helped. The O.S.B helped when a slate tile ended up falling or bouncing towards the neighbors. The buggy worked out well. We didn't need to worry about a lot of slate hitting flying. It all just fell into the buggy as we tore. I didn't used to use so many tarps, but it actually saves us time because we aren't worrying about a piece or two getting away from us. The most embarrassing thing for me is if we do a great job on the roof, but there is a mark on the sidiing or the neighbors.
I don't know what a Lull is. I got the equiptor for $32k and it came w/ extensions for putting 2 sheets of plywood on back, and the sideboards that are gutter guards or on-roof chutes. I know they sell yard pads, but I don't know their cost.
I love the thing, I'll throw shingles in it to load them or use it for scaffolding. Being 6' wide makes it pretty handy in yards too.
A guy on another roofing forum is selling a roofers bugy/equiptor right now. He said with the accessories and everything he was into it for a tad over $37,000. A year or a year in a half old selling for $27,000.
For close to $40K you can pick up a really really nice used Lull and have money left over to have a very nice basket fabricated. My framer friend has a really Lull and basket which when I'm lucky he lets me work out of from time to time. $25K for the lift and $2,500 for the basket. Reach is 35ft or so.
Ottawa: Check my post above. It goes up 11' and rolls back 6'. It will dump in any position, so we can dump into our 9yard dump truck. Handy little thing, but at $32k you've got to need it.
There are alot of variables, yes i've used shoots, but they were fabbed on site 2x4 and ply.
Copper, i've been a roofer for 20+ years, and i'v never seen such a thing. How high does it go. I see it might be telascopic
On steep roofs I attach tarps to the bottom row of shingles and either let it fall or when the shingles bulk up at the 2x6 on jacks through them off.
On a commercial tear off last Summer we were forced to use a shute system. An actual shute company wanted something like $5,000 to set up and break down the 40ft system. Since the original budget didn't allow for a $5,000 rental fee decided to get creative. Here's what we did,
Put one section of scaffolding next to the building and at roof level put the cage with door. Out from the roof we put another scaffolding one section lower and attached a heavy duty tarp to the inside of it. On two spots we tied the scaffold system to anchor points on the ground. On a windy day it didn't move much. We were not allowed to move the dumpsters onto the side walk so we had to have ground people wheel borrow the debris from the collection point in the scaffold to the dumpster. The whole job was 250 squares and it filled 3 dumpsters. The dumpsters and permits were free!
The casino appointed safety staff took pictures of the scaffolding to put in their file. Osha was reportedly shown the pictures and there were no violations.
On this job a $37,000 Equiptor would have just got in the way.
Old School, those Pettibone's look handy but not if you get into any small yards. Good lookin equipment though.
And that Equipter is a nice unit, but it only goes up 11' from where it sits. Then you can attach 2 pieces of plywood at an angle out of the back which gets you about 6 feet higher. Your looking at a highest point of about 23-26'.
10.4 Thanks guys. The eave edge is 30' up in the air. Hmmm..

Here is an idea. A bit pricey but probably if your doing tear offs everyday it would be great
