Tom ive often heard that about bentonite emulsion systems about the longevity we had a bumpy start, but it was a crooked emulsion supplier who was sending us watered down emulsion and we didnt know till we got some Henry emulsion.Weve been with Henry ever since and have to say weve got great product, the other company is still in business and is still selling junk to thier customers.I would name them but they would probalby sue me for defamation after they screwd me on emulsion.I often see thier reps and at the roofing expos and tell them of my wonderfull experience with thier company and they act surprised.I believe in karma and i believe they what they dish out will come to them eventually.
Randy; Just to clarify...We have emulsion-based roofs that are 27 yrs old & still performing....We started putting on the cold/emulsion roofs in the mid-eighties......Henry products, as well.
Randy we are Kold King installers and we use henry emulsions and supplies,we have been installing since 2004 so we have a lot down.Roofers all over the country are putting down emulsion systems,we like to install it when ever we can.
Yes...We spent the day cleaning cars as well....Lucky for us, it happened right outside a navy base, where most of the cars were headed for work.
Randy; Actually, it was/is a great system...Just pricey....We could do conventinal BUR, (hot), much cheaper.....We have roofs 27 yrs old, still performing....Some have been re-coated, (white or alum).
The biggest pet-peeve I had was the mess....We had vehicles strictly dedicated to cold process....They were nasty.....Just couldn't help it.
Rocky....That's a funny story.
How long will chopped glass like this last in Indiana weather?
Robert, Do you use Kold King, if not....what? Where do you guys buy supplies such as the glass, emulsion, coating , etc?
Looks like it would be a lot less competitive then shingles.
that was a $330 auto detail
We were very lucky that the pinhole was facing away from the building. It was up about a 100-120 feet and you really couldn't see it. Just a fine mist of coating. It was almost dry by the time it had hit the cars. the wash was easy. Everyone was happy except a girl who had a 65 mint mustang in the parking garage who claim it got into her car via 2' open windows. She sued us and lost. We offered and paid for a $3300 auto detail.
TomB. Memeories can be grand. 55 gals, emulsion or coating? Reminds me.... About 20 years ago I was putting Thermo Materials with 2ply poly on a 15 story Arizona Bank building in downtown Scottsdale. We were pumping the top coat with a 733 graco from the back end of a Toyota flatbed. I was spraying the Top coat with a couple guys tailing and rolling when all of a sudden my gun started surging. Would pump for 2 seconds and then die for 2 seconds. over and over I thought maybe the 733 sucked something up. I walked about 50 yards to the edge of the roof and looked over to see 15 to 20 people looking up. Now mind you, were using part of the bank drive thru for our set up and the bank is attached to Scottsdale Fashion Square. The place to shop in Arizona. Benz's, porsche's, you name it, it was there. Cars were backing up in the drive thru when someone noticed me and started pointing. I couldn't hear them so they started waving me down. Oh hell, somethings up, and it takes 5 minutes to get downstairs. when I get down they all start pointing at all the cars that were turning white and some pointed back up the building and I could see that we had a pinhole in my 3/4" re-inforced, brand new line. Of course we had to shut it down. We turned the drive thru into a carwash and we ended up washing 52 cars. The best advertising we didn't have to pay for as every radio and tv station was there for interviews. It was hilarious when it was all over.
We did alot of emulsiom systems, 25 yrs ago, in Calif. (school districts loved it),...Typically glass base, (or inverted cap sheet), 2-plies polyester, and what we called a "rice coat", (very small gravel w/a white elostomeric coating)...Also did chopped w/alum ctg.....Which brings back a memory of one of my guys dumping a 55 gal barrel in an intersection, 7am rush-hour, to boot!
We just chopped over this roof thats modified bitumen over the shingles,we had to cut the roof a foot back and replace rotten wood at the eave and then replce existing modified there. The modified is installed over a metal eave flashing and at the shingle wall we just chopped the existing modified at the wall. We chopped it heavier then normal to get o good thick finish.Woody thats Duke hes from Utah orignally, been with me about 15 years. Were in morgan city la for this job Troy Landry lives down the road in pierre part,we run into his sons in the local restaurants.
Robert, what are you doing at the upper tie in area where your product meets that shingle wall. You said you went over a Mod Bit, That starter roll over the front edge looks like a 25lb glas-base. Is ther not a flashing that should go there. I know this is in progress, send some final pictures. It does look good and smooth, I used to do some of this with a fiberglas mat about 40" wide. 4 gal under, 4 gal over, 2- 1 gallon coating to finish. Boy, the sliver's were bad with this stuff.
We came back later to install the aluminum emulsion to the chop
We chopped over modified bitumen roof system, cut out rotten wood repaired it.And installed chopped fiberglass emulsion system,as you can see it had a bunch of equipment on the roof.
