Have anyone can share their thought about the RCI test, it is for roof consultant and I am planning to take the test. It will cost lots of money, and a lot of books that I need to purchase. Maybe someone here can share their experience when taking the test, and what do they think about the test.

thanks!

I passed the test several years ago and I can tell you that it is no cake walk. I would suggest getting involved with both the Basic Roof Consulting Course and the Advanced Roof Consulting Course before you consider sitting for the test (it used to be 2 days). There is a lot more to the gaining the RRC certification than having an understanding of what it takes to get a roof system warranty. Drainage calculations, wind load calulations, applying building code models, design criteria, FM Global, technical document development, contract standards, project management, industry standards, and ethics are just a snapshot of what you will need to know. Not to mention the momentum that LEEDS, Energy Star, Photovoltaics and Green Construction Practices are gaining in the roofing industry.

RCI has some fantastic educational programs and I often refer to back issues of their montly "Interface" publication for technical reference and information.

Registered Architects and Licensed Professional Engineers must participate in annual update/s and get a minimum amount of credits to maintain their AIA or PE status. RRC's must do the same. As in any profession, there are some really good ones and a too many not so good ones....and some real A$$%&@&!

Last but not least....ALBA, I would sure like to meet those foremen with years of experience that you mentioned in your post.

Best regards, Bob P.

Those roof consultant are smart. They get paid 5% of the value of the project designing mod bitumen roofs that even a foreman with years experience can do.

Iv'e never looked into it but I do know a couple of RRC's and from what I have learnt from them you gotta be reallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreally smart......I mean really smart like smarter than ciak even, if you can believe that's even possible!. There are only a couple of folks on this board who I reckon could cut it and they ain't in the Southern sector.
