I have yet to see a roofer worth 50.00 an hour.
100k a year as an employee roofing...LOLZ
So, you think $20-$25/hr is fair for a journeyman roofer? I don't....I think it ought to be closer to $50. But it'll never happen w/illegals and ineffective contr. licensing.
twill... ;)

TomB Said: which cause is the obvious lack of effective state contractor licensing
Yeah, thats it.
Roofing labor is an entry level labor job. It should pay entry level pay 8 to 10.00 an hour. Good roofers here in the central Indiana area are now making 20 to 25 per hour in the private sector. (let me remind you IMHO that a roofer is an easier job than being a roofing labor).
A really good roofer starts his own business after a few years and never looks back. The ones who dont always seem to have themselves to blame for holding them back. (not to them, but from the outside looking in it sure seems that way).
You really should focus more on what you can do for your business than what the state can do for you.
Unless you voted for Obama are are OK with the socialist attitude. If thats the case all your post make sense now.
I'm referring to WAGES....It appears what your referring to, is business/contractor pricing, which cause is the obvious lack of effective state contractor licensing
I don't think it's the illegals that are driving the prices down. In MI, the illegals were a very small segment of the construction workforce and wages have been dropping since I started in the 70's too.
So what is driving the prices down? That's a good question. I think it stems from the average size of each construction firm. What other industry can boast so many "one man bands". What other industry has so many companies that only own one pickup truck and a handful of tools?
Wanna get into the Nuclear Energy business? Try doing that with a pickup truck and some wire.
