Just got back from two week in southern AL, where the sun also appears to shine damn near every day... what perfect roofing weather. Anyway, just some pics. I'll try to find some detail shots later. It was a great two weeks, from the weather to the crew to the tailgate dinners...

Oh yeah!Reminded me of a BUR,(Graveled),I was a laborer on in the 60's. Windowed wall on one side, parapets on the other 3. Large drain at the low end. Boss went alone to see why it leaked after 5-6 days of rain. Nobody remembered to unplug the drain. :woohoo: Knee deep!

You know what I love about flat roofs? They gotta be perfect.

The area of this job got a 5" rainfall in 1 hour.

The phone rang. My son and the forman make the 13 hr drive, and what do they find?

1 storm collar that somebody forgot to caulk. Expensive mistake. We all shoulda caught it, somebody shoulda looked, everybody coulda looked, nobody is the only one that did. Damnit!!!! I guess if there's a bright side, with 5" in 1 hour, and a 6" round puddle on the floor under 1 pipe, I don't think the phone will be ringing for more leaks.

Ok, but did you set it in a heavy bead of cut-off? Been doing this system for close to 25 years. I think we were some of the first to reroof metal buildings like this, and I can't say I've ever seen a problem, but we've always used WCO between the membrane and the metal panel.

I'll guarantee, if it leaks, I'll remember this conversation and let you know.

Leaks are usually caused by the elongation of the screw holes due to the metal movement .The screws come loose. We've had that problem before on a detail like that .

Those screws are run through a full heavy bead of water-cutoff between the metal panel and the membrane. If there's a leak it won't be because of the washer'd screw heads.

Those screws on the tie in term bar tend to cause leaks over time.

Roofguy Said: I never thought Id see the day: Mike Hicks, an itinerant roofer. :cheer:

I hear ya Tim. But it's a good customer that pays their bills 3 days after the invoice is received, and it's been a tough few years. When he asked if I was interested, I didn't have to think long... like about 1/2 a second... It was worth it. It was kind of nice being able to make some money while everyone back in Ohio was watching the liquid sunshine rolling into the gutters.

And thank you TomB (PS.. you're right)

Nice pics Mike....Congrats on the fun job!

On another topic; We've never used DuraLast....I will add; The other day, one of my material suppliers' rep. had mentioned he had referred another roofer to DuraLast, as the roofer was unqualified for traditional manuf. applicator status....DuraLast appears to be a "last resort" type of thing?????

Would have loved to see you there, Billy.

Old School

I wouldn't put a Durolast roof on if you gave me the material for free.... unless it was on a doghouse.

This is what we put on it. http://fibertite.com/downloads/products/8142_FiberTite-XT.pdf

Oh man thats an awesome project. I went down to Montgomery this morning to get certified for mulehide epdm and tpo, and it reminded me you were in L.A. (lower alabama). I was gonna shoot you a message and see how the project was going and if you were going to be stopping back through Birmingham. Awesome stuff Mike.

Nice pix! I'd kick that lardbutt in the chair off the roof though! He's slowing production too much for my taste!

Takes me back to my roots where every job was 100+ squares. Kinda miss it when I see those pix, but I do love where I'm at now too.
