The American Sports Builders Association, a non-profit trade association comprised of builders, designers and suppliers for sports facilities, exists to promote the highest standards of design, construction and maintenance. Our purpose is to lead in the development and dissemination of current and accurate technical information, promote the interests of builders of sports facilities of the type constructed by its members and provide a forum to gather and exchange ideas and information to improve sports facility construction and maintenance. The membership of the American Sports Builders Association is guided by honesty and integrity in our words and actions.
Founded in 1965 as the U.S. Tennis Court & Track Builders Association (USTC&TBA) by a group of contractors who recognized the need for an organization that could help them address their mutual problems, set industry standards and keep them informed on issues pertinent to their businesses, its name was changed in 2004 to reflect the broad range of work performed by its members.
The ASBA is organized into distinct member divisions that reflect the specialized areas of sports facility design and construction, allowing professionals to connect and collaborate around the specific type of work they do.
The four core divisions are the Courts Division, Fields Division, Tracks Division and the Indoor Sports Surface Division – each dedicated to promoting excellence, developing technical resources and advancing industry standards in its area.
Joining ASBA connects you with a wide range of professional resources and opportunities designed to support growth in the sports facility construction and design industry.
Members have access to exclusive technical information, including detailed construction and maintenance manuals for tennis courts, running tracks, sports fields and other facilities, along with position papers and industry guidelines that help ensure projects meet high standards.
Membership also grants access to members-only content on the ASBA website and regular updates on trends, best practices and upcoming events through Build It Right Magazine – The Publication for Sports Design & Construction, which is published four times per year in both print and digital editions. There are multiple options for membership, take a look and see which one is right for you.
The Certified Builder Program was developed by ASBA in order to help raise professional standards and improve the practice of sports facility construction. ASBA currently offers six certification designations.
