When it comes to senior living facilities, nothing is more important than creating a safe, secure and welcoming environment. Architects and designers play a crucial role in specifying building materials that protect residents and add value to their communities. Roofing choices are at the heart of this decision, and DaVinci® Roofscapes composite slate and shake products stand out as a top-tier solution for these unique needs.
Unmatched safety: Class A fire resistanceMade of virgin resins, UV stabilizers and fire retardants, DaVinci composite roofing tiles are Class A fire rated, the highest available level for roofing materials. This rating means maximum protection against fire hazards — a critical consideration for senior living environments, where safety is paramount and peace of mind is essential for residents, families and management alike.
In addition to their fire safety ratings, DaVinci roofs offer Class 4 impact resistance, the industry’s highest standard for withstanding severe weather. These roofs are engineered to handle the harshest conditions — hail, wind and flying debris — ensuring the building envelope remains sound even in challenging weather situations and climates.
The safety and durability features of DaVinci roofing do more than protect the building; in many geographic regions, they can also help lower property insurance premiums. Insurers often reward buildings with high-performing, resilient roofing systems like DaVinci’s with reduced rates, further increasing value for facility owners and operators.
Designed for practical longevity, DaVinci roofs require minimal upkeep compared to traditional materials like wood or asphalt. Their synthetic construction resists rot, fading, warping and insect damage. Facility managers enjoy ease of care, fewer repairs and reduced maintenance costs — a significant benefit in environments where continuity and reliability are vital.
More than anything, DaVinci composite slate and shake tiles bring the elegance of natural materials to any project. Their authentic textures, rich colors and refined profiles create a welcoming, dignified appearance that enhances the curb appeal of senior living communities. These visually pleasing roofs help foster a sense of pride and belonging for residents and families.
Located in Georgetown, Kentucky, Ashton Grove Senior Living is a sprawling complex. There are 23 independent duplex living cottages. In addition, the main building houses another 90 assisted living units. Atop all those structures is DaVinci Slate roofing. A custom blend of tonal colors was created so that the buildings “pop” against the landscape backdrop of 25 acres
“We’ve used the DaVinci synthetic roofing product on our previous four building projects,” says Hannah Hutchison, project manager planning and development for Continental Senior Communities. “We also used the DaVinci product on our other recent developments: Apple Blossom in Pennsylvania and The Bristol in Ohio. “The owner of these properties loves the aesthetics and low maintenance features of these synthetic slate roofs.”
Jack Lucks has an “architectural eye.” Lucks and his group, Continental Real Estate Companies, have focused on the creation of senior/assisted living facilities across America. One of them is Middleton, offering 94 rooms for retirees in Granville, Ohio.
“When I find a building product that looks good with a project I try to stick with it,” says Jack, founding partner at Continental Real Estate Companies. “That’s been the case with the synthetic slate roofing we selected for the Granville project. The black DaVinci Slate roof has the aesthetic look we wanted without the weight of real slate.”
According to Lucks he has been “enormously pleased” with the authentic look of the composite slate roof. “It’s not an exaggeration to say that the DaVinci roof has helped us gain tenants,” says Jack. “People look at the structure, see the brick and ‘slate’ exterior. It makes them take that crucial step to walk in our door. Right now we’ve been so pleased with DaVinci that we consider the company our single source for roofing.”

Dream living for independent retirees abounds at High Grove at Tates Creek in Lexington, Kentucky. The community features an assortment of single-level cottages covered in low-maintenance DaVinci Slate synthetic roofing tiles, in an attractive Evergreen color.
Designed by Rich Design Studios, the structures are constructed to last. Isaacs Roofing and Sheet Metal took special care to install the DaVinci roofs. And with low-maintenance exterior products, like the composite roofing, the management team has fewer headaches.
At The Mankowski Homes, a retirement community spanning 40 homes across six acres in Azusa, California, the stately century-old Manor House is the hub of activity. When the Tudor-style structure needed a lightweight roofing replacement, they turned to DaVinci Multi-Width Shake tiles.
“We felt that the composite shake product and the Aged Cedar color represented the most realistic look that real shakes would have to a classic-looking architectural building like ours,” says Robin Banko, executive director of The Mankowski Homes. “In addition, the fire and wind resistancy are definitely a plus for this product.”

By specifying DaVinci composite slate and shake roofing, architects and designers provide senior living facilities with a roof system that delivers exceptional safety, durability, insurance value, lasting beauty and easy maintenance. It’s a smart, forward-thinking investment that promotes comfort, security and peace of mind for everyone in the community.
