I was not participating in any online forums for a while but decided to return. Upon returning to RCS, I found that it was very slow compared to what it was like a few years ago. So I checked out some other sites.
I posted this topic on one of them not realizing that the majority of participants there were storm chasers. lol
Needless to say, it did not go over very well. One guy even wanted to meet up with me to duke it out. Which trust me would have been to his own detriment unless he carries an AR-15 around with him! :woohoo:
I don't mind if its used.
Even though my dad always said son, never argue with an idiot. He will just beat you over the head with ignorance and then attempt to drag you down to his level, I still argued with a couple of these guys for over a week. One in particular. And boy was dad ever right. I guess i'm just a hard headed jack a$$.
spudder, I'm not that old just yet, ( I'm 45 ) but I'm a second generation roofer and can remember helping out my dad and crew as young as 9 years old when school was out for the summer. But i don't claim to have officially started roofing until 1985 at the age of 17. I never looked back from there, sticking with roofing on a daily basis the entire 28 years.
There is certainly a lot of money to be made with insurance work and everyone has to survive in this world, so of course folks are gonna take advantage of that. And I don't hold it against anyone personally, its just the way the system works in general that is disturbing to me. But hey, this is nothing new in the roofing trade. I've been dealing with all the BS associated with it for 3 decades.
Old Willie, are you really that old lol Willie in our many years of legit contracting. After the 2004 and 2005 Florida hurricanes we entered the storm chasing business we were in for a while and got the hell out of it when we noticed what was going on . The work that we saw was shoddy and would not pass a Florida inspection; it was like the roofers were just labor pickups from some labor pool. We did rather well until we landed up in Texas, passing right through your home state, as I understand it a good majority of La. is still damaged and hasn't been repaired due to insurers and adjusters. When stopped operating as a roofing company was in 2006 I couldn't afford the workman comp and all of the other State changes, it’s fair to say that we lost our shirts from 1992 Hurricane Andrew and 2004 and 2005 hurricanes. On to storm chasing my final collapse lol I got out of the business, but my son still working traveling all over the eastern seaboard working for legit roofing companies teaching installation of various types of single ply and BUR all flat work and NDL systems.
Knock! Knock! Hi, Mr. Homeowner I am not a roofer, however I am a specialist when it comes to milking insurance companies. My name is Jack Leg John of J.L.J. Roofing LLC. The hail reports i paid for say your house is near the area hit by the hail. Yes I know the hail was very small and scattered but it's cheap and easy for us to go after your insurance company. We are not a local company but we are in town for a while to get as many hail claims paid for as we possibly can. We can do your roof for whatever we are able to get your insurance company to pay us because we don't have to pay much in advertising costs and overhead as we just knock doors and use hispanic sub-crews to put the roofs on for as cheap as we can get them to do it. Yes we can give you a long workmanship warranty but of course we won't be around anymore to honor it when the stains show up on the ceiling. But don't worry about that because most roof repairs are fairly inexpensive. Just sign this agreement and give me the name and phone number of your insurance company and I will whip out the K-Y Jelly right away! Oh, and before you go back inside, could you please tell me how to get back to the interstate!
