Hello guys. i work for a local roofing co. in Denver. i have a question for you all. have any of you had any problems wih these shingles sealing down.mostly on shanandoah and colonial slate. we did a big job last year about 100sq's.it was 100 degrees most of last summer.so you would think it would have sealed down, but they didnt. If any of you have please let me know. certinteed is not covering any of that claim except for hand sealing.thanks. B)

I have seen and heard of cold weather applications that didn't seal right away and dust between the shingles interfered with them ever sealing down. No different that caulk or hot-mop not sealing to a dirty surface.

I had a customer in the exuma cays that had someone install grand mannor or carridge house or whatever on his house. A small storm with less than 100mph winds blew off all of his hip and ridge caps. He had me look as he assumed his installers must have made a mistake. I was surprised to find that his installers made every single attempt to do right but the caps themselves have no tar strip between them. I replaced with new caps and set them in a bed of modified roof cement and laced more roof cement between them. Since then, he got hit with two hurricanes and not one missing. I contacted certainteed and they won't do a thing. They say that's their most "high end" product and they never have failures and they won't even look at my pics and video that I took to document the failure, cause and remedy. Don't expect these manufacturers to be responsible. In my short life I have seen shingle quality decrease more and more every year. Where the manufacturers are making leaps and bounds is with their marketing and bullet proof warranties that if you read them, don't exist. Don't depend on others and their claims, educate yourself and use your own good judgement. This is the ONLY way to protect yourself and the people who have given you their trust. And your guy doesn't "like" certainteed no more than your doctor "likes" the latest designer drug he's pushing lol. Just as the doctor has drug reps, your shingle guy has shingle reps who wine, dine and offer discounts and perks to push their product.

Thanks DdubyaC it was installed just before Christmas the 20-23 of 2011 to be exact. the ambient temp was 40+. we had some shingles blow off 2 months later. the wind can gust about 60-80mph out here pretty quickly. the "QUALITY" control people of certainteed cam out and said there was not a problem, but after a summer of 100 degrees and they still dont seal doesn't make sense.Thats why i came here to see if anyone else has any problems.personally i like oc i have never had a problem with them blowing off but, the salesman where i work likes certinteed. What part of the country are you from?

I've not used them much. I have curiosity though. You've got multiple jobs that are having this problem, so I assume you have many others that are fine. Were most of the failures, or the one in question, installed below 30-35 degree days?
