Is it a bad thing for the drip edge to have nails in it?  There is also nails in the fascia. This is in the front of the house above the garage, and it looks ugly.  Now that the nails are in there, is this a big job to fix?

I'd pop the nails out and replace them with hex roofing screws with neoprene gaskets that are the same colour as the fascia for a more aesthetically pleasing and long-term repair option over caulking them.

The correct caulk is crucial. Geocell Polyurethane Sealant is best.

Pa used to say "A little Dab will do ya"! in this case, a dab of caulk of a simmiler color would help. Not worth the trouble to replace the metal and disterb the roof at this point.

The nails are not suppose to be there, are they detrimental? Probably not, but they could eventually  rot out your fascia board.
