Does insurance pay to re-fasten planks after tearoff?

Thanks to exactimate, I feel like if I do something that isn't a line item I'm doing it for free. Maybe I feel like I'm doing it for free cuz I keep getting lowballed.

Regardless, anybody know what line item that is so I can squeeze a few more bucks out of this adjuster?? They accidentally payed for ridge vent that wasn't there and 2 layer tearoff on the whole job, even though 1/6 of it is 1 layer. Still had to talk her up about 15% despite her overpaying for things that weren't there.

Why would it matter? if it's standard practice, and it is, you add that much to the per square price. The Ins. does not set the price you charge, just the items they cover. :)

In the tools ara, you input ypur 'price per sq', same as you have input for step flashing, resetting vents, etc.

I don't use their line item sheets, but I've seen the 'white sheet' details on over forums geared more to chasers than this one is. To get past many of their objections, I just listed many set prices on my site so they have to used 'published' rates to fill in the blanks.

@Natty: It all goes to coverage: Most typical HO3 policies do not cover poor workmanship, also under Section 1- Exclusions; it does not cover code upgrades (ordinance or law). It HAS to be a covered peril under the policy, (storm related). Crappy workmanship is not the responsibility of the insurance carrier. While frustrating, the property owner is responsible for that.

You may want to have your clients contact their insurance agent before storm season and go over their policy and see if they can get special endorsements to cover specific perils or issues like code upgrades. They should also ask about "Loss Settlement- The 80% Factor" to make sure they are not under insured.

@ Clover83: NOT AT ALL, Xactimate is just a tool and only produces what the adjuster puts in. If the adjuster fails or forgets to add a line item you can go back and request a supplement. (If it's reasonable, there are usually no issues)- if the homeowner requests you as their contractor and you are at a reasonable price point of the original estimate provided by the adjuster, there is no reason for you not to receive more money. But, if you are way higher than other contractors or above market prices, than you will have issues.

My advise; tell your customers to file their claims as quickly as possible after a storm so you can get a IA and not a staff adjuster- they are usually more friendly and estimates are more accurate. (They get paid on the amount of the claim whereas staff adjusters just get a salary- whether the claim is paid or not)

I would like to know too. Every time I talk to an adjuster, they won't pay unless it is storm related. The problem is, the workmanship in the construction trades around here is so poor that I am continually running into crappy decking, crappy framing, crappy trim work, crappy brick flashing, crappy siding, etc. I am not getting compensated for all of the crap work I have to fix before I ever get around to roofing.
