What is a Liquid Applied Roofing Membrane? Liquid Applied Roofing Membranes/Fluid Applied Roofing Membranes are monolithic, fully-bonded, fluid-based coatings that have the capability of being fully or locally reinforced in transitional areas on a roof.

These liquid applied membranes, also known as fluid-applied membranes, can be applied over various substrates such as concrete, brick, wood, mod-bit, TPO, PVC, EPDM and many other surfaces.

When these coatings cure, they form a rubber-like, elastomeric, seamless waterproofing membrane with no cracks, gaps or voids to allow the ingress of water. The superior conformability and customization of liquids allow for easy application of roofing systems to complicated details and penetrations with little to no waste.

Single Component, Ultra High Solids, Liquid Applied Silicone Roof Coating

Sikalastic®-500 is a versatile, low VOC, ultra high solids, single-component, liquid applied silicone roof coating. It provides superior UV resistance over a variety of roof substrates. The main features of Sikalastic®-500 are its high solids content, rapid cure and superior physical properties. Certified to meet CoolRoofRatingCouncil (CRRC) and EPA guidelines for ENERGY STAR® compliance.

• UV resistant: Slows degradation caused by normal weathering, aging, and ultraviolet rays

The Start of Sika

Kaspar Winkler was driven by his entrepreneurial spirit when he laid the  cornerstone of
our company in 1910. He was born into a modest cobbler family and emigrated quite early from Austria to Switzerland.

There he invented Sika-1, a quick-setting waterproofing admixture for mortar, which was used to waterproof the Gotthard Tunnel, enabling the Swiss railway company to electrify this important connection between Northern and Southern Europe.

Innovation met demand! Kaspar Winkler recognized an upcoming global need for his “trailblazing” admixtures and launched subsidiaries around the world. Already in the 1930s, 15 Sika subsidiaries in Europe, USA, Argentina, Brazil and Japan established new construction chemicals markets.

Today the new Gotthard Tunnel (NEAT: New European Alp Transit) again is an important project for Sika. Although Sika-1 is still part of our product range, today much more advanced products are being used. High-tech admixtures for shotcrete and tailored waterproofing systems are needed to build this 57 km tunnel – the longest tunnel on earth – through the Swiss Alps.
