Winning projects showcase exceptional roofing and waterproofing work across schools, hospitals, mixed-use towers, plazas and residential spaces.

Sika Roofing & Waterproofing has announced the 2025 winners of its Projects of the Year competition, recognizing outstanding achievement by approved applicators across the country. This year’s honorees reflect the range of challenges contractors face in commercial roofing and waterproofing, from high-traffic public spaces and active healthcare environments to green roofs, rooftop playgrounds and complex urban towers. Contractors submitted entries in categories including Low Slope New Construction, Low Slope Re-Roof, Steep Slope, Waterproofing and Sustainability.

At Francis M. Leahy Elementary School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Greenwood Industries helped transform an unused rooftop into a functional playground. With limited ground space available, the project used a Hydrotech protected rooftop assembly and a Sarnafil 80-mil polyvinyl chloride (PVC) adhered system to create safe recreation areas while protecting the school below.

In Bentonville, Arkansas, Ozark Green Roofs installed a two-acre living roof at Alice L. Walton School of Medicine. The system blends native and adaptive plantings, outdoor learning areas, gathering spaces and stormwater management into a roof designed to support wellness, education and long-term performance.

Heritage Restoration delivered extensive roofing and waterproofing work at South Station Tower in Boston, Massachusetts, spanning 29 roofs and terraces across 22 levels. The mixed-use tower required precise detailing across pool decks, terraces, green roofs, balconies and other complex assemblies.

Utah Tile and Roofing was recognized for its work on the Church Office Building Plaza renovation in Salt Lake City, where more than 200,000 square feet of plaza deck received Hydrotech waterproofing and related protection, drainage and garden roof components.

Other winners included Roofing Solutions LLC for its Sikalastic liquid-applied roof at Lady of the Sea Hospital in Cut Off, Louisiana, and Eagle Restoration and Contracting Inc. for the Wilkes Passage Condominiums terrace restoration in Boston.

Together, the winning projects highlight the technical skill, coordination and craftsmanship required to deliver durable roofing and waterproofing systems in demanding environments.

            style=' '  loading='lazy' />

The high-performance, two-component, fast-curing liquid resin can be used in flashing applications and roofing or waterproofing field applications.

Sika Corporation – Roofing & Waterproofing is excited to introduce the next evolution of its polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) solutions under the unified Sikalastic® Rapid brand. This strategic transition brings PMMA for both flashing and field applications together under one powerful global brand, reinforcing Sika’s commitment to innovation, consistency and performance across all roofing and waterproofing systems. The expanded portfolio not only benefits our PMMA flashing and field membrane applications, but it also offers greater flexibility, enhanced compatibility and more choices when it comes to providing complete solutions for roofing and waterproofing in an ever-more-demanding market.

Flashing, roofing and waterproofing applications

Sikalastic® Rapid PMMA is a high-performance, two-component, fast-curing liquid resin used to create a seamless, fully reinforced waterproofing membrane. It can be used in both flashing applications (Sikalastic Rapid-724) and roofing or waterproofing field membrane systems (Sikalastic Rapid-723). Catalyst is added to the resin, activating the chemical curing process and is used with fleece reinforcement to form a monolithic, self-flashing, and self-adhering reinforced membrane.

In flashing applications, it is an adaptable solution that performs exceptionally well in complex and challenging penetration details, while maintaining a clean finished appearance. In tight clearances or irregular shapes and details, it provides an easier and more effective waterproofing solution that would otherwise be difficult for standard flashing products.

Beyond detailing, it also serves as a versatile field-applied waterproofing solution for amenity decks, balconies, terraces and other exposed surfaces. A range of color options and slip-resistant finishes allows building owners to achieve both performance and aesthetics in occupied spaces.

“The launch of Sikalastic® Rapid PMMA represents a significant step forward in how we deliver PMMA systems and performance across Sika Roofing & Waterproofing’s solutions,” said William Bellico, vice president, marketing. "By unifying these technologies under a single brand, we're giving contractors and owners a more streamlined, comprehensive system that performs across a wide range of applications."

The Sikalastic® Rapid PMMA product line supports diverse applications, including planters, fountains, pools, pedestrian traffic systems, under pavers and complex detailing conditions. Building owners will rest assured that their investments will stay protected with proven performance products. Contractors will achieve faster, more efficient installations while delivering long-term performance.

We had a great time sharing stories and photos over social media with our roofing community!

National Roofing Week is an annual event hosted by the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) that aims to raise awareness of the roofing professionals who keep our communities safe and secure. The event also acts as a way to build community with other professionals, both near you and across the country.

Participation in National Roofing Week is primarily conducted online by posting photos and videos through the #NationalRoofingWeek2026 hashtag. And NRCA has created themes for each day of National Roofing Week to guide posts.

Sunday – Kickoff

The week kicked off with posts about the importance of roofers. NRCA started everything with a post sharing the schedule for the week and some highlights from last year’s National Roofing Week! Here at The Coffee Shops™ we joined in the fun on all our social media pages, making sure to thank the coating installers, roofing professionals and contractors who make our community amazing.

Monday – Signature projects

For the Monday theme, NRCA invited National Roofing Week participants to share photos showcasing their company’s signature residential and commercial projects. There were too many amazing projects posted to put them all here, but some that stood out to us came from QXO, Sika and Eagle Roofing Products!

QXO’s post was a carousel of some of their customers projects, including one from Toitures Scott, one from Nedlaw Group and one from RUHS in California. Likewise, Eagle Roofing Products’ post showcased signature projects featuring their concrete roof tiles from across the country.

As for Sika, they took the opportunity to shine the spotlight on their 2025 Sika Project of the Year award winners, which includes stunning projects like the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center project in Los Angeles, California and the South Station Tower project in Boston.

Tuesday – Charitable projects

The next day of National Roofing Week was all about giving back, and the National Women in Roofing (NWIR) Oregon Council stole the show with a free roof!

The replacement went to a community member in need, which is an incredible reminder of the power our industry has to do good.

They put it best in their post:

Seeing contractors, manufacturers, distributors and industry partners come together with a shared purpose — without competition, without agendas, and focused solely on helping someone else — is truly inspiring. For one day, company names and logos took a back seat to teamwork, generosity and service.

Projects like this showcase the heart of our industry. The relationships we build, the willingness to lend a hand, and the collective impact we can make when we work together are some of the best parts of being in roofing.

NWIR extended huge thanks to industry partners, like Malarkey Roofing Products, ABC Supply, SRS Building Products, Owens Corning, Bliss Roofing and Raindrop Roofing NW, for making this incredible charitable project possible.

Wednesday – Employee appreciation

The midpoint of the week was all about the people who get things done – the employees that keep our industry moving. For this theme, the #NationalRoofingWeek2026 hashtag was flooded with pictures and appreciations for hardworking workers around the country.

Drexel Metals posted some behind-the-scenes of their team hard at work, captioning it, “To everyone who continues to show up ready to learn, teach and push the industry forward: thank you. Your commitment is what drives stronger partnerships, better projects and continued progress year after year.”

IKO Industries and CertainTeed also posted, shouting out the ROOFPROS who get the job done every day and recognizing the “craftsmanship, innovation, and dedication of the teams who help bring CertainTeed products and solutions to life” respectively.

Thursday – Training and learning

For Thursday, NRCA chose training as the theme, inviting contractors and companies to share the ways they keep learning and growing on the job. For this theme, GAF joined the party, sharing an incredible milestone from their GAF Roofing Academy – since 2020, the tuition-free program has helped more than 3,000 individuals find employment in the roofing industry!

And this is just one of the many stories added to the #NationalRoofingWeek2026 hashtag! The Durable Restoration Company posted about the hard work their craftspeople put into their apprenticeship program and QXO shared how they connect their team with everything from stand downs to plant tours.

Friday – Celebration

And you can’t have National Roofing Week without taking the time to celebrate the amazing industry we are all a part of! For this theme, the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) took their followers on a trip down memory lane, sharing the “conferences, tournaments, regional events and industry gatherings where Texas roofing professionals connect, learn and celebrate together.”

Drexel Metals also posted, sharing a common sentiment of thanks related to the power of the industry, “From the shop floor to the jobsite, your dedication, craftsmanship and collaboration are truly what make a lasting impact. We’re proud to be part of an industry built on innovation, resilience and strong partnerships.”

Saturday – Wrap up

Overall, this year’s National Roofing Week was a resounding success. From everyone that posted to event sponsors like International Roofing Expo, Georgia-Pacific Building Products, SRS Distribution, Roofing Alliance and SOPREMA, it was all made possible thanks to the incredible roofing community.

The Coffee Shops crew already can’t wait for next year’s roofing week! As Atlas Roofing put eloquently in their final #NationalRoofingWeek2026 post, “This week gave us the opportunity to celebrate the people, organizations and partnerships that make the roofing industry such a rewarding one to be part of. Here’s to another year of collaboration, innovation and success.”

Award-winning roofing projects highlight technical expertise, safety coordination and creative problem-solving across schools, airports, medical facilities and urban landmarks.

Sika Roofing & Waterproofing has announced the winners of its 2025 Projects of the Year competition, recognizing standout roofing and waterproofing installations completed by contractors across the United States. The annual program honors excellence across multiple categories, showcasing projects that combine technical expertise, planning and innovation under demanding real-world conditions.

Among the recognized projects was the Narbonne High School roofing modernization in Harbor City, California, completed by BEST Contracting Services Inc. The large-scale effort covered more than 55 buildings within the Los Angeles Unified School District and featured the first installation of Sarnafil Self-Adhered Feltback membranes in 60-mil EnergySmart. Crews coordinated work during off-hours to minimize disruptions within the active school environment.

In Boston, Massachusetts, Commonwealth Building Systems earned recognition for the 500 Boylston Street project, which transformed a highly visible rooftop into a checkerboard architectural feature using Sarnafil membranes in White and Lead Grey. The installation required precise measurements and detailed layout planning to maintain consistent alignment across the roof.

Educational facilities were a recurring theme among the winners. Hayden Building Maintenance Corp. completed a complex restoration at Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia, New York, replacing aging roofing systems above occupied classrooms, athletic spaces and cafeteria areas while maintaining daily operations. Similarly, DG Roofing LLC completed a six-month replacement project at Carl Schurz Elementary School in New Braunfels, Texas using a torch-applied SikaShield modified bitumen system designed for long-term durability and energy efficiency.

Several projects highlighted the logistical challenges of roofing active or highly visible facilities. J.Reynolds and Co., a Tecta America Co., replaced the elevated turbine roof atop Houston’s Hess Tower under difficult weather and access constraints. At Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport Concourse D, L. Marshall Roofing and Sheet Metal completed a roof replacement while working within strict Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) protocols to avoid disrupting airport operations.

Tri-State Commercial Roofing Corp. was also recognized for a large-scale roofing upgrade at Stryker Orthopaedics in Mahwah, New Jersey, where crews coordinated around ongoing corporate operations and installed more than 350,000 square feet of Sarnafil roofing systems engineered to meet strict performance requirements.

The winning projects reflected a common emphasis on safety, coordination, durability and long-term building performance, showcasing the resilience needed for contractors to meet the growing technical demands placed on modern commercial roofing project needs.

Two days of learning, networking and industry recognition.

At the beginning of May, the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) brought building enclosures professionals from across the industry together for their annual conference. Held in Minneapolis, Minnesota this year, the conference featured a full schedule of networking opportunities and education sessions!

Networking

On the networking side of things, the conference featured an extensive expo floor with leading companies like Rainscreen Association in North America (RAiNA), Sika, Georgia-Pacific, DuPont Tedlar, VaproShield, Polyglass and SOPREMA in attendance.

There were also notable events to attend, like the Board Meet & Greet, a keynote session from Brian Callaghan and Mary Kilnay and the much-anticipated ABAA awards ceremony!

The award ceremony saw a variety of celebrations and recognitions, including the distribution of the Years of Service Award (which recognizes ABAA members who have completed 12 consecutive years of service as directors) to Peter Barrett, Andre Desjarlais, Brian Stroik and Craig Wetmore. Further, Matthew Giambrone was given the Leadership Award and Uri Portillo received the Staff Recognition Award.

As for the Peter Spafford Award, it went to Spray Foam Technologies of Kentucky for getting the “minimum number of audits (10 per year for 2 years, totaling 20) with a minimum percentage (95%) of audits without any demerits.” And last but not least, the Air Barrier QAP Award was presented to 13 different organizations who each showcased exceptional air barrier installation.

Learn how these award-winning projects demonstrate technical precision, collaboration and innovation across complex roofing systems.

Sika Roofing & Waterproofing’s 2025 Projects of the Year Awards offer a clear view into how contractors are meeting rising expectations for performance, durability and architectural integration. The annual competition recognizes application excellence across Sika’s approved applicator network, drawing submissions from across the country in categories including low-slope, steep slope, waterproofing and sustainability.

Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center

The 2025 winners reflect a broader shift in the industry, where complexity is no longer situational but inherent to the work itself. That reality is evident in the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center in Los Angeles, California, where Letner Roofing Company executed a roofing system designed to meet both technical and visual demands. The approximately 200,000-square-foot expansion, built to house the Space Shuttle Endeavour, required more than 55,000 square feet of Sarnafil PVC membrane installed across five distinct roof levels.

Each section required a different approach. A ballasted assembly with Mexican black pebbles delivered a clean, finished appearance while supporting efficient installation, while other areas demanded precise detailing around pre-installed ductwork and complex wall transitions. At higher elevations, multiple systems were integrated, including Sikaplan membrane for interior protection and a Sarnafil Décor Roof system engineered to replicate the look of standing seam metal, ensuring consistency across both performance and design.

QTS New Albany 1 (NAL1) DC1

That same emphasis on system integration carries into the QTS New Albany 1 (NAL1) DC1 data center in New Albany, Ohio. Completed by Cotterman & Company Construction, the 240,000-square-foot facility was built to support mission-critical operations where failure is not an option. The roofing assembly was designed as a unified system, combining layered insulation, vapor barriers, leak detection and a 72-mil Sarnafil PVC membrane. Extensive expansion joints and perimeter detailing were incorporated to manage movement and maintain long-term reliability across the structure.

These projects demonstrate how roofing has evolved within modern construction. As buildings demand greater coordination and higher performance thresholds, roofing systems are increasingly defined by how well they integrate with the broader structure. The 2025 winners represent that shift in practice, setting a higher standard for execution across the industry.

Sika highlighted coatings, restoration systems and contractor training while engaging with attendees on the show floor.

The 2026 International Roofing Expo brought together roofing professionals from across the world, and Sika Roofing & Waterproofing used the opportunity to showcase its wide range of building protection solutions while connecting with contractors on the show floor.

On day one of the event, Dani Sheehan of The Coffee Shops™ stopped by the Sika booth to learn more about what the company had planned for attendees. She had the chance to catch up with Patrick Jorski, parking and restoration specialist for Sika in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. “I’ve been in this role for over 20 years. I’ve been selling our THORO coatings for over 36 years,” he shared.

Alongside product demonstrations and conversations with contractors, Sika created an interactive experience designed to draw in visitors. “We’re doing a sealant challenge to find the fastest caulker. The person with the quickest time wins a grill,” said Patrick. The activity gave roofing professionals a chance to test their skills while engaging with the brand in a fun and competitive environment.

Beyond the contest, Sika focused on highlighting the breadth of its waterproofing and restoration solutions. “We’re also talking about our wall coatings, our ad mix, our concrete repair, our One-Shot specialized deck coating system — so, anything to waterproof and protect your building,” Patrick explained. “That’s what we do.”

Education was also a major focus for the company at the show. Patrick serves as a presenter and trainer for Sika’s national wall coating applicator program, which helps contractors develop the knowledge and skills needed to properly install their coating systems.

“It’s a two-day course of means and methods, proper application, proper millage, how to teach the contractors to put the materials in right so it’s perfect, beautiful and you get the aesthetics that you really want,” Patrick said.

With a high-traffic booth near the show entrance and customers visiting from across the country, including many from Texas, Sika stayed busy throughout the event.
