Virtual Western Roofing Expo a Huge Success for the Industry

WSRCA Virtual Roofing Expo
August 11, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

By WSRCA.

The first-ever virtual expo exceeded expectations while keeping everyone safe and healthy.

The Western States Roofing Contractors Association is incredibly thankful to the participants of the first-ever Virtual Western Roofing Expo who made the event a huge success! The event took place July 1-15 and had over 70 exhibiting companies, 40 educational webinars and nearly 700 registered attendees! The expo site will remain open through the remainder of 2020, so those who still want to view new products and services from exhibitors, or self-pace through our webinars can do so at WesternRoofingExpo.com for the rest of the year.

The Davis Memorial Foundation also pivoted to an online Silent Auction and surpassed their goal of $50,000 raised for their scholarship fund. The Foundation would like to acknowledge and thank all donors of prizes and bidders. The Foundation would not have reached its goals without the support of so many industry friends. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $550,000 in scholarships to students from the industry.

Additional highlights from the Virtual Western Roofing Expo were the prestigious awards that WSRCA President Leo Ibarra awarded to worthy WSRCA members:

Wrangler of the year
Mike Trotter from Front Range Roofing Systems in Greeley, Colorado was this year’s WSRCA Wrangler of the Year. He was instrumental in establishing a partnership between WSRCA and the Colorado Roofing Association to encourage Colorado roofers to support our industry on both a local and regional level. Thanks to his efforts, Mike recruited eight new contractor members to WSRCA this year.

Outstanding service award
Trent Cotney from Cotney Construction Law won our Outstanding Service Award. His guidance on legal matters, contracts, and protecting the values and priorities of WSRCA has made Trent one of the greatest additions the association has ever made. Besides his quality work behind closed doors with our Board, his service to our members is second to none. In fact, Trent presented four legal sessions during the VWRE.

Board member of the year
Wendy Marvin from Matrix Roofing in Vancouver, Washington was selected as the Board Member of the Year. Despite being a first-year Board Member, Wendy truly shined at last year’s WRE as she signed up four new members while working a shift in the WSRCA booth. Her energy and passion for the roofing community is contagious and her addition to the Board has been impressive. She also was a key member of the vetting committee that interviewed potential candidates to the Board. Her organized and well-thought out interviewing style will change the way WSRCA will interview candidates moving forward.

During the closing session of the expo, President Ibarra announced the voting results from WSRCA members for the new slate of 2020-2021 Board Members. Congratulations to Jake Magalsky (Ace Roofing, Wilsall, Montana), Hillary McPartlon (Brian McPartlon Roofing, Santa Fe, New Mexico), Scott Riopelle (Interstate Roofing, Denver, Colorado), and Wayne Sorensen (Top Line Roofing, San Diego, California). We look forward to welcoming these new leaders to the association.

The first-ever Virtual Western Roofing Expo had many of the same beneficial concepts that the in-person Expo has had over the years. Whether it be best practices for roof installation, legal, safety, better ways to run their businesses, or simply checking out the new products and services in the marketplace – WSRCA really wanted to be able to provide solutions for the industry. It was the mission of the WSRCA volunteers and staff to continue to fulfill these goals for exhibitors and attendees – all from the comfort of the homes and offices of roofing industry professionals.

We are proud that WSRCA was able to do the right thing from the start, keeping our roofing community healthy and safe, while introducing a virtual offering – the first of its kind in our industry. Our staff, contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers all banded together to create this event. We were able to imagine how to create business in what looked like a lost year to do so.

The Western Roofing Expo 2021 is scheduled for June 27-29, at the Paris-Las Vegas. We do plan on adding some of our popular virtual features to the physical expo, to make it a more well-rounded event. We can’t wait to see everyone in Las Vegas next June!
