SRS drivers rev up for the Drivers’ Championship

SRS Drivers rev up POTW
December 7, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.

By Evelyn Witterholt.

Chris Bachman from SRS Distribution chats with us about their upcoming Drivers’ Championship ahead of the Las Vegas Bowl.

On Friday, December 22, SRS Distribution will be hosting their Drivers’ Championship where their top drivers from across the nations can show off their driving skills. This competition will be held the day before the Las Vegas Bowl, which SRS Distribution is also sponsoring. In a recent podcast with Chris Bachman, VP of safety, risk and regulatory compliance at SRS Distribution, told us all about this upcoming event where they shine a light on their drivers’ skills.

In the podcast, Chris discusses how the Drivers’ Championship is just one of the many ways their company likes to give back to their employees. Their company employs many drivers, but only a select few get to compete in the championship. During the competition, contestants will compete in a three-day event for a chance to win a cash prize. They are also compensated for their flights and hotel accommodations.

“The Driver Rodeo is just one of several opportunities that we have to say thank you to our professional drivers and the staff that they support,” Chris said. “This year is going to be the best since the conception of this.”

Meeting the criteria for the championship is no easy feat. With over 2,100 logistics specialists, SRS has to look at a lot of metrics to determine who can compete. One of the ways they determine eligibility is with a driver recognition program.

“That's a quarterly recognition, and it goes into a scorecard that looks at both leading and lagging indicators,“ Chris said. “You have no department of transportation (DOT) violations, you have a hundred percent complete of your training requirements. You have a hundred percent driver qualification (DQ) file, you have no preventable vehicle accidents, you have no out of service violations within the DOT, and then your hours of service, which is your recording through the amount of time that you spend on and off the road, goes into effect.”
