In a new episode of Roofing Road Trips®, John Kenney stopped by RoofersCoffeeShop® to talk about the training courses that Cotney Consulting Group offers contractors. These trainings are conducted online and focus on three main tracks: sales estimating, project management and leadership development.
John shared a bit about what led him and Cotney to create these courses:
What pushed me into building these structured training programs was seeing the same problems repeat themselves at different companies... I have decades of experience in this business and I kept seeing estimators, project managers and superintendents promoted without getting training. They’re just told, ‘Here’s your crew. Here's what you got to do, have at it.’
The result of this pattern? Estimators, project managers and superintendents falling into the common mistakes that could be avoided with training like John provides through Cotney Consulting Group. John shared a bit more about the contents of these courses, saying, “Everything we teach comes from real jobs, real mistakes and real successes. We avoid theory for theory’s sake and instead focus on how things actually happen and what’s actually going to keep you from making common mistakes like missing scope, labor overruns, change order complications and unaligned customer expectations.”
The cherry on top of John’s trainings? They are accessible. He explained, “We made these online so you can learn at your own pace. And we all know in this industry that you're busy. And this is something you can do for a couple hours at night. You can do it on a weekend. You can do it on your lunch break because it can be done very easily.”
