By Lauren White, RCS Assistant Editor.

Contractors are missing out on business by making these common errors.

The United States has experienced a myriad of storms that have devastated many cities and states.  While the destruction is heartbreaking to building owners, storms are an opportunity for roofing professionals to gain new customers.  According to CoreLogic®, “63% of roofing contractors say post-storm response is a vital part of their business.”  This means 37% of contractors are missing out on potential business.

Knowing this, CoreLogic created an infographic explaining the four mistakes many roofing contractors make after storms.  By providing this information, CoreLogic hopes to educate contractors on the ways they’re costing themselves money and provide them with tips to remedy these errors.

The first mistake is that contractors are “slow on the draw.”  In the age of technology and instant gratification, customers are expecting to receive their quotes quicker than in previous years.  83% of roofing contractors have experienced the demand from their customers to return their quotes promptly.  CoreLogic recommends using online solutions to speed up the process and provide customers with a quote quickly after a storm.  Emerging technology has improved quote turnaround for 71% of roofing contractors.

“Passively waiting for jobs” is the second common mistake.  According to CoreLogic, “Almost half of roofing contractors earn more than 20% of their business by contacting the customer first.”  When storms hit, being proactive and reaching out to people in damaged areas is an effective way to solicit extra business.

By using emerging technology, contractors avoid underbidding, which is the third common mistake.  When using emerging technology, 95% of roofing contractors rarely or never lose money because they underbid.  Utilizing technology helps contractors keep their quotes accurate and their overhead low.

“Churning business” is the fourth mistake.  “95% of roofing contractors say that referrals are a major source of their business,” CoreLogic reveals.  Satisfied customers are a great source of cultivating repeat business or referrals.

Use this information to gain more business and help more people.  Download your copy of the infographic today!
