A great big ol' AMEN to that one! One of the most accurate statements that's come along....

"If you get poked in the eye long enough maybe some will wake up."

I don't know about you but if I get poked in the eye I pretty much immediately conclude I'm dealing with a sadist. The "industry" was never "once-proud." It has always had a few proud upstanding practitioners and a whole bunch of flakes and hacks. Always will.

One thing about SB101 it's up to local prosecutors to pursue the bad guys. And I hope anyone giving our business a black eye get's put under the jail, but I see only the worst of the worst getting tagged. Any feedback from you Missouri boys? Is it biz as usual? What insurance co's are living by this law?

If you get poked in the eye long enough maybe some will wake up. It is a rude way to make a point. For that I apologize Celebrating bad behavior? Not doing anything about your industry sitting around watching a once proud industry slogged around in the mud. Your community being ruined. That is insolent heedlessness, Protect the community you live in. That is my point. B) :) :) B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Every Day

I certaintly hope it gets turnover quicker than that, but probably not. Robert, there is plenty of money in this Missouri law to enforce. Sure, the roofer's will find ways around it. what we can't do is talk to the adjustor. As soon as we do it will be called "negotiating" and hence in violation of the law. Now we need a law to nix the law, f...ing politics. Ciak, I am appalled that you have the audacity to celebrate in our face. Just a "dump ole, "what" " living off the home owner expense. I guess there's 2 ways of making a good livng. Storm chasing and adjusting, cuz both of you are taking it away from the good contractor. Where are you Missouri roofers in all of this? and don't you have a State contractors association to battle this type of legislation.?Let's hear it from you guys. You do this right you could over turn this law in months with the right efforts. at least over turn line 6. Is there anybody in Missouri? are you guys awake? If you don't have a good association, get the NRCA involved, that's part of there function.

As they pass these laws,it will only take time before the insurance companys come in and under pay the claims and the insureds will realize they been duped by thier states reps and will be reacting to this.If the insurance industry would act right and settle claims correctly, this would never have been an issue.Storm chaser"s use thier understanding of the claims process to get homeowners to sign.If your not an adjuster or an experienced insurance repair contractor, you more then likely can not understand a loss statement.Ive never had an insured who understood thier statement of loss and i believe it is done intentionally by the insurance industry to take advantage of thier customers ignorance.Insurance used to be about taking care of the insured, now its about taking care of the stockholder.I expect this to be overturned within five years when homeowners get screwed by thier insurance companys enough and start reacting to it.

CIAK...I agree, in that; The path of least resistance, is to jump-in w/both feet & stop the complaining....Some of us are simply observers, gaining some entertainment......We don't HAVE to rely on such antics to operate a succesfull roofing business.

Yes, after Joplin Mike Parsons sponsered a bill to protect the public from the 5% of crooked contractors out there, but let the insurance companies run amuck and save millions. He's a nice guy, but in bed with AMFAM, MO FARM BUREAU AND FARMERS at least.

Senate bill 101 is a Missouri law that went in effect in aug of 2011. Anybody from Mo out there? if so is it business usual or has it affected your biz?

It is no secret I work the insurance industry. I am a state licensed Florida roofing contractor and a State of Florida licensed Indepentant insurance adjuster + licensed in most of the continental USA I see both side of the issue from deep inside the beast and outside. I don't make the rules. I do follow them. It also is no secret I support local contractors. The problem as I see it.. there is ignorance on the part of the contractors. Not rising to the situations resisting and complaining whining. They are dealing with a well organized fully equipped and extremely well funded and connected corporation. Hey JerryM, where are you from?

May 1, 2012 at 5:51 p.m.

Rocky....Which brings us to the typical storm-chase-large or small-Local or out-of-towner, way of doing business.....

Bing!-bing!-bing!-(bells-horns & such!) They, (storm-chasers), all act like "chuck-in-a-truck" with no overhead-----Because they do indeed operate with lowere overhead that us legitimate, (or should I say "dinosaurs?), types....They have ZERO labor burden, as they typically misrepresent employees as "independent subcontractors"!

I remember when Colo. WC rate was 50%....add FICA, etc...There was NO WAY a legit outfit was going to compete price-wise.
