Attendees of the 2026 IIBEC Convention gained insights, education and networking opportunities. 

On March 12-15, 2026, the 2026 IIBEC International Convention and Trade Show delivered on its promise to bring together roofing and building enclosure professionals for education, collaboration and innovation. In an episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Heidi J. Ellsworth spoke with Brian Pallasch, EVP and CEO of the International Institute of Building Encloser Consultants (IIBEC), about the key takeaways that continue to shape how contractors, consultants and manufacturers work together. 

For Brian, one central theme for the conference was collaboration. “It really is about the partnership,” Brian stated. “When the contractor, the architect, the building enclosure consultant and the manufacturer work together, it’s to the benefit of the owner and the building. It’s a team.” As building systems grow more complex, this team approach is becoming essential across the industry. 

Brian also emphasized that IIBEC members play a critical role in ensuring quality and performance. “Our members are there to help the owner, the roofing contractor and the manufacturer get the job done — well done and right,” he said. That focus on quality was evident in both the educational sessions and conversations happening on the trade show floor. 

In addition, another key topic present throughout the conference and trade show was the long-term durability of building performance. “The idea of commissioning is, as buildings get more complex, you want to make sure that plans are actually being followed on the job site,” Brian explained, adding that building owners are increasingly focused on results: “They want to make sure that the building that they paid for is the building that they’re getting.”

The role of sustainable roofing systems in protecting the earth.

A history of sustainability 

Every year, the Johns Manville team releases a Sustainability Report. The reports outline how the company is working towards that sustainable future. These reports use a two-pillar structure that leverages both the Global Reporting Initiative Standards and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board’s Construction Materials Sustainability Accounting Standards to assess both the sustainability of Johns Manville’s operations and their products.  

In 2023, the report showed Johns Manville increasing the number of energy-saving products in their portfolio (by 14%), a reduction in CO2 emissions (of 12%) and a total of over two billion pounds of materials recycled. 

Looking to the future 

Looking ahead, Johns Manville has set tangible goals to continue their sustainability efforts and reduce their environmental footprint. These include, but are not limited to:  

• Reducing the company’s waste intensity from 2020 by 10% by 2025 
• Expand their sustainable product portfolio by 10% by 2025 
• Integrate alternative renewable energy sources into the production 
• Reduce their emissions by 40% by 2040 

Overall, sustainability is more than a buzzword for the team at Johns Manville. As Scott Coons, VP of R&D and chief sustainability officer explained, “Sustainability is more than an outcome we’re trying to achieve. It also serves as a starting point, a way of thinking that begins at the very inception of a product.”

Explore education sessions, networking events and trade show details for the 2026 IIBEC International Convention. 

As design requirements grow more complex and performance expectations rise, building enclosure professionals are looking for practical solutions backed by research, testing and real-world experience. The 2026 International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) Convention and Trade Show, taking place March 12–15, 2026, at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento, California, brings those conversations together under one roof. 

Hosted by IIBEC, the event is expected to draw 1,700 consultants, architects, engineers, design professionals and other experts specializing in roofing, waterproofing, fenestration, cladding, building commissioning and exterior wall technologies. The convention features education sessions approved for IIBEC Continuing Education Hours (CEH), with all sessions submitted to the American Institute of Architects (AIA). 

The show runs March 13–14, with exhibit hall hours from 3:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Friday and 8:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Attendees can connect with leading manufacturers and service providers while exploring the latest advancements in building enclosure technology.

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has announced its newly appointed Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the 2026-2027 term. The elected leadership will guide the association’s strategic initiatives, advocacy efforts and industry advancement on behalf of asphalt roofing manufacturers across North America, effective January 1, 2026.

“The experience and leadership represented by this group will be instrumental as ARMA continues to address key industry priorities,” said Reed Hitchcock, ARMA executive vice president. “We look forward to working with this team on ARMA’s strategic priorities and to further strengthen the asphalt roofing industry.”

Ken Roberts, Atlas Roofing Corporation, will serve as ARMA’s president through December 31, 2027. Roberts has been president of Atlas Roofing Corporation for the past three years and brings more than 30 years of experience from Masco Corporation. During his tenure at Masco, he held numerous leadership roles, including president of Delta Faucet, president of Masco Canada, vice president of international sales, vice president of specifications and national accounts and vice president of Asian business, among other positions spanning purchasing and manufacturing.

“ARMA has a strong legacy of advocating for asphalt roofing as a high-performance, reliable and sustainable building material,” said Roberts. “I’m honored to serve as president and look forward to working with our members to strengthen industry collaboration and ensure asphalt roofing continues to deliver value to the construction industry.”
