Two paths to an award-winning collaboration

Brandon Byrd and Tim Young reflect on their unique journeys through the roofing industry and the project that brought their work together.
In a new episode of Stories from the Roof, we sat down with Brandon Byrd of Quality Exteriors and Tim Young of Duro-Last to learn about their journeys in the roofing industry – and how their paths crossed on a recent award-winning project!
Brandon and Tim’s journeys into roofing
Brandon’s story starts when he was in middle school and an uncle of his, who worked in construction, introduced him to the world of roofing. He recalled, “I was out at one of my uncle’s job sites and there was a roof leak. So they called out their roofer, it was Danny Demonbreun of Demonbreun Roofing and he had me ripping up shingles with them.” From there, Brandon found himself selling roofing and wound up in distribution. From there, he found his way to Quality Exteriors. He shared, “They were a customer of the distributor I was working at and I really liked their values; they would really go the extra mile for everyone... So when they started expanding and adding to their staff, I made the move back to the contractor side.”
As for Tim, his path to his current position with Duro-Last wasn’t direct. He explained, “I worked as a sales rep for a manufacturer who made commercial roofing curbs for almost 15 years. But then that company sold out and relocated, so I started looking for new opportunities.” He went on, “I ran across Duro-Last and they gave me an opportunity and, while not where I would’ve imagined myself a decade ago, I couldn’t be happier.”
Where paths cross
Then, in 2025, these two professionals' paths met during a collaboration that won Quality Exteriors an Edge-to-Edge & Deck-to-Sky™ Project Award! When we asked about the collaboration between Brandon and Tim and their employers, Brandon highlighted that it wasn’t the first Quality Exteriors has gotten support from Duro-Last:
We really hitched ourselves to the Duro-Last wagon just a little bit before the COVID era. We were looking to partner with someone who was going to really be there for us and be true partners and Duro-Last was there.
That partnership was on full display during the award-winning 2025 project. Tim recalled, “It was a hometown project for the guys at Quality Exteriors and they really did an incredible job. They used a Duro-Last system on all of it and not only was their installation on the roof great, their coordination on the rest of the job site was also incredible.” He continued, “There were a lot of products, a lot of trucks and very limited storage space because of the cranes on site. So there were a lot of challenges, but Brandon and the team at Quality Exteriors truly do a fantastic job, it’s been great being their partner.”
