Tools, training and technology for commercial contractors

Tools, training and technology for commercial contractors
July 23, 2025 at 3:00 a.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

IKO helps contractors keep up with evolving trends by offering full-system solutions, digital tools and hands-on training.

As the commercial roofing industry continues to shift toward safer, more efficient systems, manufacturers are stepping up to provide support at every level. During an interview at the Canadian Roofing Expo this year, Aaron Hatch, commercial manager for IKO Industries in Central Canada, shared how IKO is keeping up with industry trends and contractor needs through their growing portfolio of cold-applied products, digital innovations and enhanced contractor program.

“We’re really focused on being a one-stop shop,” Aaron explained. “IKO manufactures full roof systems from the deck up, which allows us to support designers, contractors and distributors with complete solutions and reliable performance.”

One of the most significant shifts in commercial roofing is the growing interest in flame-free, or cold-applied, systems. Aaron noted that IKO is fielding more questions about these systems as building owners and contractors prioritize safety, especially on occupied buildings or sensitive job sites. “Flame-free is a very important topic,” Aaron continued. “It’s gaining popularity, and we’re proud to offer not only cold-applied membranes but also compatible insulation and envelope products to support a full-system approach.”

Beyond the products themselves, IKO is investing in tools and training to support contractors on the job and in the office. They recently launched their IKO Rooftop Access app, which makes it easy for contractors and designers to find product information, specifications and documents right from their phones to streamline decision-making on the go.

For crews in the field, IKO offers an Approved Applicator Program – a comprehensive training pathway that ensures installers are equipped with the knowledge they need to apply IKO systems properly and qualify for warranty coverage. Additionally, IKO’s online warranty portal gives you more visibility and control. “Contractors can now log into the portal, apply for warranties online and monitor their status throughout the different stages,” Aaron shared. “It also stores previously issued warranties for easy reference.”

From a new single-ply TPO membrane to cold-applied and full system support, IKO is helping contractors move the industry forward with safety, performance and ease of use at the core.
