At the kickoff of International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) 2025, SOPREMA took the stage to send a clear message: modern roofing isn’t just about the materials, it’s about systems, solutions and working smarter together. With a focus on building resilience and long-term performance, the company opened the event with a strong presence and a sharp strategy.
“We focus on more than just making roof materials,” said Greg Williams, national sales manager for SOPREMA and Performance Roof Systems, during a live interview hosted by Heidi J. Ellsworth. “We want to focus on solutions and the resilience side of it.”
Speaking from the IB Roof Systems-sponsored soundstage, Greg shared SOPREMA’s evolution from a modified bitumen manufacturer to a global force in full-building envelope systems, including roofing, walls, below-grade and blindside waterproofing.
What sets SOPREMA apart? A drive toward practical, performance-based innovation. Greg highlighted the company’s attention to real-life building conditions and the need for products that work across all phases of construction. Greg said, “We’re promoting materials that allow for phase construction and sequence construction, whatever term you like to use.”
One standout topic was the company's commitment to storm resilience. With ICC 500-compliant systems and high-performance hail protection backed by FM approvals, SOPREMA is emphasizing durability without cutting corners.
But products are only part of the equation. SOPREMA views strong consultant relationships as essential to project success. “Your relationship with the consultant gives you credibility with the owner,” Greg explained. “That year-round relationship with the consultant benefits all three parties: consultant, contractor and manufacturer.”
Greg also touched on SOPREMA’s work in supporting specification professionals with essential documentation, including EPDs and HPDs. “We’ve really focused on it the last three years,” he noted. “It’s not easy to wrap your hands around, but we have a team that that’s their primary duties.”
The energy at the event was already building as consultants and attendees began pouring in. For industry professionals seeking deeper insight into roofing innovation, resilience strategy and the power of collaboration, Greg’s full interview offers a compelling behind-the-scenes look at SOPREMA’s leadership in action.
