Simplifying skylights

Simplifying skylights
May 23, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.

Johns Manville’s skylight program helps contractors integrate daylighting solutions into commercial roofing systems.

With factors like rising energy costs and new environmental regulations, efficient building performance is more important than ever. That's why Johns Manville has partnered with Logistics Lighting to create energy-efficient daylighting solutions. To learn more about this partnership, Megan Ellsworth welcomed Eric Huffman and AJ Maijala, Logistics Lighting’s president and senior relationships manager respectively, for a Lunch and Learn all about skylights.

So, how do skylights make a building more energy efficient? By lowering the use of electrical lighting systems. Eric explained, “Whether it's for warehouse, automation, manufacturing or any of those other types of buildings, the goal is to set up the skylights similar to how you would consider an electric lighting system in terms of spacing. By doing this, you can turn more lights off or dim them during the day, when that natural light can help illuminate a space.”

Not only does this lead to energy and financial savings, but it also has physical benefits for occupants of the space. Eric shared, “There's been many studies done about daylighting and the advantages of natural light in the human body and circadian rhythms and health and wellness and many other things. Our bodies are designed to work in natural light and things like our eyesight are improved upon when working in a naturally lit environment.”

These many benefits are why Johns Manville partnered with Logistics Lighting to create their Skylight Program. This program aims to help contractors integrate skylights into commercial roofing systems easily and seamlessly. AJ explained, “Whether it's a new roof or a re-roof, this program connects JM contractors to us. And what we do for them is work with architects/specifiers to design an effective skylight layout and then provide high-quality skylights and smoke vents to the contractors to install.” And this expert guidance is not the only benefit contractors get from working through this program; they also can rest easy knowing that their roof and skylights have single-source coverage under the Johns Manville Peak Advantage® Guarantee.

Learn more about the advantages of skylights and the Johns Manville Skylight Program by watching the whole Lunch and Learn.
